This is the end, folks
27 January 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I remember back when we all thought "Revenge Of The Sith" would be the last "Star Wars" movie, but now, it looks like it will be this. I'm sad to say that this is the least critically acclaimed Star Wars episode entry, even lower than "The Phantom Menace". That being said, I still enjoyed it and even saw it to commemorate my grandmother (and last living grandparent) dying. For a movie almost two and a half hours long, it really does go at a great pace for me. My complaints are the same as yours, as it's never really explained how Emperor Palpatine came back to life after falling down a shaft in "Return Of The Jedi" that then exploded. You can tell they just wanted to bring the character back and for the little screen time he has, he does make it work.

There's more dumb things about it, like what was the purpose of Palpatine even creating Snoke in the first place? Why didn't he just lead the Order by himself from the get go? Yes, it gets predictable with Kylo Ren reforming (he's a member of the Skywalker family, what'd you expect?), but overall it's worth checking out. I also liked having C-3PO playing a bigger role seeing as how in most of these movies, he's just there because he (and R2D2) are in every movie. Decide for yourself whether the prequels are better than the sequels as that is being addressed now. The other movies were way better, but for a conclusion, this is still nice. ***

My favorite What You Never Knew
27 January 2020
This is my favorite entry in the Nostalgia Critic's "What You Never Knew" series. Why? Because it's a WYNK about Doug Walker's favorite comedy! Considering he's made hundreds of comedy videos, that is a HUGE compliment. I have never seen "Hot Fuzz", but I have seen "Shaun Of The Dead" made by the same creators. I just knew watching that I had to pay attention.

I love when he mentions the real life implication of the paperwork. Trust me, we all know what it's like to go through paperwork. While not my favorite comedy "The Amazing World Of Gumball" is my pick for funniest animated show. I could seriously watch every episode of that show over and over and always find new jokes, just like Doug Walker does with "Hot Fuzz". It's a pity he doesn't do these anymore. It's still great to look at these little things. ****

Frozen II (2019)

Warning: Spoilers
This is the long awaited sequel to one of the most popular movies of all time. The plot is that Elsa is hearing a voice that tells her to go to an enchanted forest. She finds opposing soldiers formerly commanded by her father. I was hoping that there would be a standard Disney villain unlike recent Disney movies where there's a surprise villain. Hans actually worked as a surprise villain in the last one, but in this one, there's no real villain. It can get predictable, as I know their dad is going to be rescued by their mom.

I know Olaf's going to say that love is something that lasts forever. We get great animation especially with how Elsa commands her horse. I also like how she literally forces Anna not to work with her. Kristoff is pretty entertaining and I actually do buy his relationship with Anna more, and it's fun to see him propose to her . The songs aren't as good, but it's still definitely a solid movie. The ending is particularly great with Anna learning to take responsibility as a queen. ***

Snakes In Space!
17 December 2019
Here's a rather odd episode, but also one of the best. It's easily the best of this season and it's not hard to see why. The episode starts off with Rick and Morty in space and Morty getting bitten by a space snake. Seriously, there's a snake dressed like an astronaut floating around. They go to the snake planet and find a cure, but Morty sends a snake from Earth to replace it. They're then attacked by snakes in a Terminator parody.

There's seriously a two minute sequence of nothing but snakes hissing as the only dialogue. This is also a Christmas episode, although it's not that relevant. The visual gags are awesome in this, especially how the time traveling snakes keep appearing one after another. Lincoln and Hitler are in "Rick And Morty" again? Going back to 1985 must have been a "Back To The Future" reference. This episode was hilarious and creative. ****

Merry Christmas!
14 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This episode features Santa banning alcohol because of all the drunk driving around the holiday season. I think I have heard that before. At least it's an urban legend that the suicide rates increase around Christmas time. I was thinking they had abandoned the plot with Randy and Tegridy Farms. Instead, they do go back to it! Randy is summoned to bring them marijuana, or Christmas Special.

Someone keeps banning recreational drugs. They never say it's Santa, but seeing as how he keeps saying drugs are bad, we all know it's him. I didn't know Jesus wouldn't appear until the end. It's about the legalization of cocaine. Is that actually happening right now? This was an enjoyable episode and nice to conclude the decade! ***1/2

How it's made
12 December 2019
This is a series that shows how an episode of the Nostalgia Critic is made. Well, not really so much an episode, but the production. They don't show how they get the clips. There was already a DVD feature about that. It's great to see these guys having so much fun. It's hard to make a full length episode in just a week.

We get to mostly see how they get all those costumes together. Since the Critic came back, I know it's a lot harder now. He basically went back to doing a review every week. Always nice to see Doug and his family bonding. You get a sense that you're on a personal connection with these people. You do wonder how something like that is made. ***1/2

Pity it's hated
11 December 2019
This episode features Morty getting a dragon. Well, it's mostly Rick getting a dragon. So the dragon ends up bonding with Rick and is punished by a wizard. It's a shame people don't like this season. I think it's good, just not one of the best. I thought the dragon designs were great.

I guess we're getting into dragons lately. Well, maybe it's just because of "How To Train Your Dragon 3". I like the jokes about "Bones". I haven't even watched that show, but even I know it's notorious for its shipping. The title gets funnier the more I think about it. Weird how a show with so much swearing is only rated TV-14. ***1/2

I don't have cable either
6 December 2019
This episode revolves around Scott Malkinson. I don't think I'd ever heard of this character before. I thought I knew all the characters! Anyway, he's a kid with diabetes who meets a girl with diabetes. They to watch "The Mandolarian" on Disney+ which he has to get first. They do this funny "Cowboy Bebop" parody in the beginning.

Cable repair men are tired of losing business to streaming services, so they shut them all off. The end is easily the best part. It was great to see the references to all the other shows, including "PC Babies". They come up with a new intro all the time! I'm still looking forward to Netflix more. Baby Yoda always cheers me up. ***1/2

29 November 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Hmm, thought this would be an episode focusing on the PC babies. It seems like they're using every intro they can nowadays. This episode features Sheila getting a fecal transplant. Yes, that is in fact a real thing. I don't know if it's in the news lately, but we can count on "South Park" to be topical. I was wishing they'd connect it to Thanksgiving.

They did! Turns out the women have been using turkey basters to give themselves fecal transplants which collect bacteria. The funniest part is when the boys are thinking to themselves. I especially love hearing Kenny's real voice. Only this time, his face wasn't shown. It definitely got dark and I'm glad everything was resolved in the end. ***1/2

They abandoned so many plots
25 November 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This episode features Rick and Morty going to HeistCon, where people plan heists. Rick gets help with this from his new robot called Heistotron. Heisotron ends up double crossing him because he was programmed by Rick to do double crossing. Of course, he had switched the brains with the Randomtron so he anticipated that. Or did he? It ends by saying that Rick and Heistotron (or was that Randomtron?) argued for two hours about who was ahead of who, but Rick wins in the end.

It was nice to see Mr. Poopybutthole again. I had no idea he was a professor. Well, not any more. It's kind of heartwarming knowing that they have no bad memories of him. The plot gets too complicated but that's the joke. This was still a strong episode, if obviously hard to follow. ***1/2

That was scary
19 November 2019
This was one of the earliest short films I saw on the Internet. It's only three minutes long, but boy, does it get its message across. It was literally based on a dream. Given the atmosphere, it's very easy to tell. The whole thing seems like a dream, especially the flashback. This tells the story of a guy who tells a story.

It's about a cat with hands and later a lot more. I admit to not being into stop motion, but the kind used here was very effective. It helps that it makes up the entire flashback. "Cats With Hands" was actually the name of a newspaper comic. Well, it's pretty much forgotten by now. This is a truly frightening film executed perfectly. ****

All this caused by pooping
19 November 2019
I'm probably just so happy to see the show back after literally years. This episode features Rick finding out who took a poop in his private toilet. I know how dumb that sounds, but it's still really funny. As usual, we get tons of jokes per minute. This is such an easy show to quote. Anyway, Morty goes on his own adventure with his dad.

Summer gets an app that pairs you with people. It's really fun seeing these stories happening everywhere. They do manage to make them all tied together fairly well in the end. I understand the title pun now. I really do feel bad for Rick at the end. Well, he should have watched himself better. ****

Better episode
15 November 2019
This episode features a new intro. Instead of "Tegridy Farms", it's "PC Babies"! Just the idea of all these babies with sunglasses is funny. It mostly focuses on PC Principal and I must say, I really did feel for him here. The episode has a Randy Savage parody who identifies as female winning every strong women contest. I do wonder why they don't just call him (her) Randy Savage.

I mean, they always use the names of the real celebrities. Was that Randy voicing him (her)? A subplot is how girls try to play board games with the boys in the school. The way these two connect at the end might be the best part. I knew that last episode wasn't the season finale! If only they referenced "Warhammer 40K". ***1/2

Lots of action
15 November 2019
This is the Season 4 premiere of "Rick And Morty", and it's starting off wonderfully. This episode features Rick and Morty finding gems that can show a person how he'll die. Morty keeps seeing images of a death where Jessica comforts him. He really is obsessed with her. Rick accidentally dies, but luckily he has a lot of backup bodies. We get great jokes as he resurrects in other dimensions.

Morty is accompanied by a Rick hologram telling him how to bring Rick back. It's one of those episodes where the comedy is just on. It's great how they make fun of continuity or a lack of in some cases. We get some really creative worlds too. I'm not going to spoil how it ends, but it makes perfect sense. Apart from the laughs, there's great details put into everything and it's all satisfying. ****

Not the season finale!
7 November 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Well, this website claims there's going to be more episodes this season. The show doesn't break the fourth wall much, but it seemed to at the end. Then it turns out it was just Randy advertising his show within a show. This features Randy being arrested upon discovering he was behind the bombings. The climax references that of the movie "Joker". I really did not see that coming.

I'm glad they brought Garri-Trump back. It's been too long without him. Rudy Giuliani gets mocked too. I almost like I need to pay more attention to the news. I can't tell if they're referencing a recent event or not! Well, I keep track well enough. ***

Good, but not great
31 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This episode features Randy making a Halloween Special. That is, it's literally about marijuana that's called that. Shelley is tired of the marijuana and tries to destroy it. Unfortunately, this just seems to make it more effective. Meanwhile, Butters revives a mummy. The best part might be near the end, when it seems like Winnie The Pooh came back to life!

Sadly, it's just hallucinations. I admit they could have gone further than that. It would have been nice to see some action scenes with the resurrected cows and plant zombies. Still, it was good for what it was. I like how Butters learns to get over the mummy's curse. Happy Halloween 2019! ***

Could have used more jokes
20 October 2019
This episodes features the South Park school's cafeteria being changed to vegan. Cartman doesn't like that and has to be hospitalized twice. I can associate with him. I had a seizure and had to go to the hospital too! Randy gives new burgers that are made of marijuana so even though they taste bad no one cares. The funniest part was at the end when he and Towelie were killing the cows.

I would have liked to see Mickey Mouse. I really liked the bits with Winnie The Pooh. I guess I haven't heard about this in the news much. I have no idea if this is what Burger King really does. I know what goes on in the news. Great to see Towelie contribute to the story. ***

How the magic of friendship grows
15 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Well, here it is, the final episode of the biggest sleeper hit in pop culture history. This episode takes place in the future where Twilight is now a fully grown alicorn. She's greeted by a student named Luster Dawn, whom she has to teach friendship about. Most of the story is flashbacks to the day she became the leader of Equestria. Don't worry, it's not a clip show! Pinkie Pie has married Cheese Sandwich and they have a daughter!

As tradition with cartoon endings, this one's bittersweet. Twilight is now immortal and will outlive all of her friends! Rainbow Dash and Applejack might be married! They deliberately left vague details about the characters' romantic lives. For all we know, Rainbow Dash could have married Soarin! It was never about romance, but as the title suggests, friendship!

I will admit that I wish the main action could have been in the final episode. That's what they did for "Gravity Falls" and "Adventure Time"! Just make it an hour long episode like they did! The first few seconds of the first episode showed a book being opened and the last few seconds of the last episode show it being closed! For me, this marks the end of the Golden Era of the best animated kid's shows. This was the longest running and thank you Lauren Faust for giving us one of the most unbelievably good franchises of all time! ****

"I could transform the cosmos so everything is made of icing!"
14 October 2019
This is the second to last episode in the entire series and it's pretty freaking awesome. Discord manages to free the Mane 6 and they all appear together. Like I found out before, all the good guys come together in the end. We get this great montage that shows them gathering all the characters of different species. Now Twilight has realized that she doesn't need the Elements of Harmony to stop the villains. It was awesome seeing Tempest among them too!

We get some great battle scenes and we see Pinkie Pie at some of her funniest. There actually are going to be Season 10 comics that finish the story, just like "Adventure Time". The pacing's great and I think I might mention pacing too much in my reviews. I will admit it would have been nice to have it all concluded in one long final episode. Still, this is where we get our epic battle! Everyone's important in the end! ****

As great as you'd imagine
12 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Well, after nine years this classic cartoon is finally ending! The episode starts off with Tirek, Queen Chrysalis, and Cozy Glow using the magic bell to become as powerful as they can. They get the slip on Grogar...who is revealed to be Discord in disguise! Pity they stole his powers too! Discord manages to warn everybody, but it's too late. Discord wanted to create a threat to give Twilight and her friends credibility.

Yeah, this was amazing. Twilight's coronation is being set up. The villains have been secretly pitting all the ponies against each other. Great to see them all here. My only complaint is that it would have been cool to see the actual Grogar appear. It's still everypony at their best! ****

Happy 300th episode!
11 October 2019
So, this is the big 300th episode. I know it would be hard to top the 200th and 201st episodes, seeing as how they were literally threatened about it. The previous episode was titled "Band In China" and it caused the show to literally be banned in China. I admit this seems underwhelming. There wasn't really anything too special done here. It was just Randy boasting about making 300 thousand dollars.

So, the plot is that Cartman refuses to get his shot and acts like a pig whenever someone wants to give him one. It's great that they talk about how important it is to get vaccines. That's definitely something kids don't want to do, but have to. I missed Mickey Mouse and the Disney characters in this. It's still funny to see Cartman act like a pig. It was fine, but not enough for a milestone celebration. ***

Joker (2019)
9/10
Body count: 10
11 October 2019
I am just amazed at how this only 69% of critics liked it, but it has a 9.0 here! I admit that it's not as good as Heath Ledger's Joker, but it's still awesome. The funny thing is that there's a good reason why the movie isn't called "THE Joker". The creators said that the Joker might just be a persona various people took. Batman does in fact appear in this, but only as a small child. He's worked very well into the plot.

I could really associate with what Joker was going through. He had been taking all these medicines yet none of them worked. He was angry at the rich for oppressing the poor. Him killing rich people at first really does inspire people. It really was a great study on the status of the richest and treats the story as very mundane. That was kind of already done in "The Dark Knight", but the focus is done so well here too. ***1/2

Just one (three?) more
5 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Hey, this website went back to showing the highest rated episodes on the site! I don't know why, but I like it better that way. This was great as it features Big Macintosh proposing to Sugar Belle. Discord and everyone else manage to mess everything up. It even ends with their wedding! I do wish that the episode was more about their wedding and not their proposal.

I love Granny Smith describing her dream about Grand Pear going into space. It's a reference to him being voiced by William Shatner of "Star Trek"! I like the way the story's told from everyone's perspective. They don't really have cameras in this universe, do they? It's still a great episode. Once again, I'm sad the show is ending. ***1/2

Will they do Hello Kitty next?
4 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I remember looking up and finding out that Winnie The Pooh generates even more revenue than "Star Wars" along with Mickey Mouse and "Pokemon". They had done episodes about Mickey Mouse and "Pokemon" and here's one about Winnie The Pooh! He's not depicted as evil, but he does get killed. So the plot is that Randy is trying to sell weed in China. He gets arrested for doing that and gets out of prison by offering to help the Chinese. He gets help from Mickey Mouse too.

I just really do love how the song is going on with story arcs. I mean, for a show that's topical, that is a very hard thing to do. Aww, I missed Towelie. I had no idea Winnie The Pooh was controversial in China. Great allusion to the "Fingerbang" song. That might be the catchiest one they ever made. ****

The last CMC episode!
28 September 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This episode features the Cutie Mark Crusaders wanting to go the Appleloosa, but can't get a guardian. They talk to all the Mane 6 about this, but not Pinkie Pie for some reason! Why don't they try getting her to help them?! They find a magic flower that they wish to become adults. They go on the wrong train, assuming going on any train will get them to their destination. That's called reality ensuing.

They meet these other kids that have a pet called a Whirling Montooth. I have to admit that this is a really clever idea. I do wish the episode hadn't focused so much on the guest characters. I even kind of wish the transformation was permanent. Still, this was a great sendoff to all of the Cutie Mark Crusaders' adventures. Maybe their voices could have been changed as adults too. ***1/2
