Watched up to ep4.
As with so many shows, started with a great Ep 1.
Ep 2 started to drift and it carried on downhill from there.
And now, don't where it is going or why. In fact, don't care.
Uninteresting, ridiculous, miserable and so, so slow.
And when a clever technician achieves the impossible - she is sacked!
That's it. No more for me.
Uncut Gems (2019)
What on earth was this?
After 5 minutes of ear-assaulting noise (music? and squawarking) I should have given up. But I didn't, I thought it would calm down and start to entertain.
I was so wrong.
Neary every sentence contained the F word and everything about every scene was excruciatingly unenjoyable.
Lasted about 30 minutes and then got on with my life.
Deadwater Fell (2020)
4 episodes long - really?
Such a slow, boring storyline that could easily have been compacted into a single 1 hour program.
The War of the Worlds (2019)
What a shame
I really expected the BBC to produce a great version of this science fiction classic and so looked forward to watching it.
What a disappointment it turns out to be.
Episode 1 was mediocre and I did not get the reason for the time shifts. Episode 2 was mainly a padding fill-in and very frustrating. Episode 3 is an unknown as I am not interested in the outcome of the boring characters.
It is typical these days to boost the role and importance of women in thrillers but this was beyond belief. The unblievable excuse for a husband spends more time staring into space than providing any ideas and direction. Until, that is, he determines that he can improve the odds of two against one. Luckily his female partner takes control and issues the orders.
My advise is to stick with the book. Have a read and visualise the action yourself.
The Capture (2019)
Couldn't quite maintain it's grip all the way through.
An interesting and worrying concept.
Hadn't bin-watched anything for a while but this series got me hooked.
The first 3 episodes had my full attention but episode 4 started to drag, so I left it there and went to bed at 2am.
Was still thinking about the story-line when I got up so settled down to watch the other 2 episodes.
The fifth was a bit of a hotch-potch and the last was like a lot of films these days - suffered from poor winding up of the loose ends. Well most of them. There were still one or two that didn't get covered.
All in all a good show but could have done better.
Couldn't watch it all
This film is an insult to intelligence.
That's all I wanted to say but the review panel says it's 'too short'.
So I'll add that for 30-40 minutes endured a film that was cringingly awful.
The Poison Rose (2019)
Just a B movie
Surprised that quite a few A movie actors turned up for this B level movie.
What was in their minds I fail to see - unless it was just the money.
The story was poor and predictable, the roles were shallow and the gun fights were the worst.
Writing this has made me realise that I need to reduce the rating from 4 to 3.
Lost me after 3 episodes
The 1st episode caught my attention and intrigued me.
The 2nd caused my interest to decrease.
The 3rd went so downhill that I have given up.
Put it out of it's misery.
This series should never have seen the light of day.
The kindest thing to do would be to consign it to the rubbish pile now, before it wastes the lives of any new viewers.
I have no idea what the people that were involved in the making were thinking.
They must all be so desperate.
Lancaster Skies (2019)
Boring characters, boring storyline, boring, boring
It is about time that IMDb started showing the number of reviews each reviewer has contributed.
The number of 'one-offs' for this, all stating what a great 10/10 film this is, shows that more needs to be done to stop the rest of us wasting out time.
This film lost my interest in the first 5 minutes.
Instant Family (2018)
I gave it an hour of my life - unfortunately.
I watched for 55 minutes or so, then got on with my life.
Couldn't stand the hyper-speed talking and OTT problem scenes but assumed the story would turn a corner.
Along came Mum - but no change - still ridiculous over-acting and ridiculous situations.
I usually watch to the end of a film, hoping to be surprised by a twist or some sort of improvement, but there was no way I could with this ludicrous offering.
I may have missed a surprise improvement but just couldn't face the wait.
Like the Die Hards? Love Peppermint.
Made a change to watch a film that was pure escapism. OK it was a sad start, violent action and unusual end - but I knew it wasn't a documentary !
It was a good ol' revenge film and I was on her side all the way.
Well worth watching.
Magnum P.I. (2018)
Weak story outstripped by the background noise.
As soon as the first episode started I turned off the opening noise - can't call it music.
When I thought that the scenes would have normal sound I switched it back on.
It took a while for me to realise that this show, along with some other latest series, are now seen as a chance to give work to musicians.
The noise was incessant and so unnecessary.
When the episode finished the silence from the TV was magnificent.
I felt my whole body relax and realised that it was the noise, not the Magnum adventure, that had made me uptight.
The story line was weak and, apart from the main characters, the 'extras' were the most wooden support cast that I can remember encountering.
So, I guess that's another 'new' series that I will not be wasting my life on.
The Rookie (2018)
Was this a concert?
There was a battle between the speaking and the music and the music won!
Enjoyed the story line but really had to strain to catch all the conversation.
UPD, end of 1st series Enjoyed it overall but the 'Rookie' could have had a more dynamic part to play.
Sorry, I fell asleep
Despite all the noise, bangs and car tyre screeching, I fell asleep after half hour. Woke up after an hour and was so bored that I stopped watching.
How many more 'samey' movies like this can they make?
Had no interest in the characters and the 'mission' had nothing new to offer.
This is a typical 'theme milking' job.
Deserves no stars
This note contains NO spoilers because I don't know what it was about.
Oh my. Did I really spend time watching his pathetic excuse for entertainment? Yes, unfortunately. This was a pointless, badly dialogued, badly acted, mishmash of a film.
It was so incredibly bad I don't know how I have found so much to write about !
Fahrenheit 451 (2018)
They need not have bothered
The 1966 film version was good for it's time.
This version was weak, boring and failed to explain the background to events.
Ray Bradbury would have held his head in his hands and cried at this insult to his work.
The Split (2018)
Great cast, poor everything else
With the cast list for this series I expected something special.
Instead we got staccato talking, often unintelligible and seldom more than a clipped sentence. Poor camera work, but that is the norm these days, and so many different people and scenarios were covered that I doubt that I will remember half the details next week - assuming I can be bothered to try a second episode.
And why has this 'Hey' greeting crept in? Can't we do anything in this country without mimicking the Americans?
Jessica Jones (2015)
Not sure whether i will watch episode 2 !
Just watched the first episode. Looks like it could be worth staying with BUT ...
- why the need for a lesbian side-story?
- why the need for a steamy sex scene?
- why such a miserable close?
The Man from Earth: Holocene (2017)
Amature level rubbish
This film was such a waste of time that I am lost for words.
It was like a school production with plastic acting and an immature story line.
No idea what makes people want to distribute films like this.
I don't know why they made this film.
This film was based on a worn out theme with no new twist.
The direction, acting and dialogue were very low quality.
The foul language and graphical sadism added nothing to the story.
No idea what the ending meant and I lost track of the dark haired women that kept appearing.
The Shape of Water (2017)
Watched till the end - wish I hadn't
With some improvement this film might reach the standard of the black and white Saturday morning children's films we watched in our local cinema in the 1960s.
Of course the masturbation, full frontal and sex scenes would have to be removed.
Oh, and the violence would have to be toned down.
But, other than that, the story line is daft enough, and the characters are comic enough, to have kept kids quiet for a couple of hours.
As is the case with a lot of films, judgements seem be made based on the 'important' directors and their 'messages' rather than entertainment value.
This concoction fails even to meet the low entertainment standards of La La Land and Dunkirk.
If you value your 'me time', don't waste it watching this poor excuse for a movie.
Darkest Hour (2017)
Proud to be British
Having recently watched the film Dunkirk I fervently hoped that Darkest Hour was not going to be a chopped up concoction of out-of-sequence scenes.
Thank goodness it wasn't.
This film moved through time in the normal way. Day by day, in the right order.
I only hope that the makers of Dunkirk study this film and apply their findings to their future work.
Darkest Hour is an excellent piece of entertainment, not a history lesson, but offers a good depiction of the May 1940 period. It is very well acted with Churchill and the King leading the way.
This film covered the two possible responses to an attack on this country - fight or sue for peace.
To the people of the UK I would point out that nothing changes. The country is again under attack and there are schemers who think that they know best. These schemers truly believe that, although the 'plebs' may have voted for one outcome, they can be ignored.
Blair, Osborn and Branson are today's version of Halifax and his cohorts of the 1940's. If Halifax had got his way we would now be governed (at best) by Germany. Blair etc seem to have the same objective.
The question is, "Can May be as successful as Churchill in the defense of the UK?"
Let us hope that our "Darkest Hour" is not yet to come.
The Greatest Showman (2017)
This is a film that I could "binge watch"
I went to the theatre to see Barnum a few times and was thoroughly entertained.
This film, though, is in another league.
It is like a giant stage production made up of the best of everything. The actors, the music, the choreography and the overall entertainment value were all off the scale. Absolutely fantastic at every level.
The songs such as "This is me" are works of art in their own right, as are the accompanying dance routines.
Unlike a lot of IMDb reviewers, I hadn't read any reports in the media, so had no negative hurdles to get over.
I am looking forward to watching this film over and over again as soon as it is available on DVD.
Brilliant. Brilliant. Brilliant.
The Healer (2017)
Life needs a little magic
This is one of those films that exists to give us a light-hearted look at life.
It has all the ingredients of a story that gets you nodding in agreement, shaking your head in annoyance and smiling at the feel-good sections.
You may also feel your eyes filling up at times because the mix draws you in and pulls at your emotions.
So, settle down comfortably, get a box of tissues just in case, and enjoy a movie that has some mystery, a 'not so bad' baddie, minimal sex, no swearing and a fairy tale story line.
Well worth a viewing.
