L'écume des jours (2013)
An honest movie about life
I really liked this movie, despite the weird visuals. The movie represents life itself, and its truth is universal, it reflects today's society as well the one in the beginning of the last century when the book was written. The love story is heartbreaking, and you root for the characters until the end and try not to lose hope. Somehow you find yourself along the story. The obsession of Chick about an author/philosopher strongly symbolizes today's society, where we idolize things, we are obsessed with material possessions. Audrey Tatou is great in the movie, as well as Romain Duris, they make a perfect screen couple and deliver the essence of it. I really recommend this to everyone who wants a movie that will linger for a long time and will make you think deep about it.
Breathe In (2013)
The choice should be in your hands
At some point in the movie Sophie says to Keith: "You just have to make sure that you're choosing it. I just don't wanna be living a life where I'm not choosing stuff", which is so profound and one of the few real truths of life I think. This movie shows the struggles in life, the awful truth that after 17 years a father, who made sacrifices for his family is not happy being a music teacher and living in the outskirts of New York in a small quiet town. The arrival of exchange student Sophie is the trigger and a wake-up call in his life and marriage. The tender love story is portrayed brilliantly and the paralyzing hit of reality is so profound it will make you think deeply of your own life. This movie is worth the watch.
Blood Ties (2013)
Movie based on character development, great one by Canet
IF YOU EXPECT THIS TO BE A CLASSIC Hollywood GANGSTER MOVIE, YOU WILL BE DISAPPOINTED! It's not, it's way more than that, it's almost entirely based on the characters development. As the movie unfolds, we learn more and more about the lives of the two brothers, and the circumstances in which they keep finding each other, which makes it very hard for them to connect on a brotherly level. The actors play their roles to perfection, very believable, specially Clive Owen and Marion Cotillard. The cast is exceptional and bring out the essence of the period. I really enjoyed this movie from beginning to end, and I'm glad it wasn't action based. I didn't find the 2 hours long like some of the viewers, although I understand it's not for everybody who usually expect more dynamical plot from a 70's movie.
A violent yet very gentle movie
I've been postponing watching this movie for a long time, I guess I tend to judge movies by the cover... but I was very wrong, it was one of the best movies I've ever seen. The chemistry is so obvious between Matilda and Leon since the first scene they share together. The character development is so amazing, shows that human emotions are strongest and can soften even the toughest man. I believe this movie has one of the gentlest and purest love story in history of movies and portrayed to perfection.I haven't seen a movie that awakens such nice emotions and sympathy than this one; If you haven't seen it, please do so, you will be amazed;
