Airwolf: Flight #093 Is Missing (1984)
Airport 77 meets Airwolf
Airport 77 meets Airwolf! Like most disaster movie's Flight #093 Is Missing has a character build up, the cause of disaster , and the aftermath. Like Earthquake, Towering Infernal, and all other 70's movie story lines, Airwolf has Caitlin fling back to Texas on Flight 093 for a wedding. All the characters have disaster movie character arches. Panic guy, good looking women in swimsuits etc, are in the mix with nasty hijackers. The aftermath is Airwolf rescue. I will not give away the whole story but there is memorable double crosses and a take down with the hijackers ending with a big air combat and rescue final. Entertaining 8 stars.
Another cool episode.
Another cool episode. HX-1 has a cool professional chopper heist. The professional done heist involving arm dealers gets Hawk's attention. The middle part of HX-1 is character development of Hawk. Hawk believes the heist could of only been done by Hawk's brother or brother's best friend. Hawk get's deep into the mercenary underground to find out. The viewer sees why Hawk is a personal man escaping to the cabin away from the world of strife. The ending explains more of Hawks past. We have an ending of HX-1 show down vs Airwolf, while Hawk wants to find out about brother Singin. A memorable episode. 7 stars.
Airwolf: Fallen Angel (1984)
One of the best Airwolf episodes.
One of the best Airwolf episodes! What works: There is intrigue. Archangel has a former K G B lover on a kill list and gets captured trying to rescue her. Airwolf come to the rescue. Is there a trap? Character development, there is an East German Scientist and K G B handler with this double female agents, which the viewer hates and distrusts the evil characters. A cool factor here: The back ground for Fallen Angel has a cool video game heavily arm castle mix with a police state background. A great story: A plot twist if what has happen to Arch Angel with those experiments? The only down side is Fallen Angel should been a two part episode. Must see 8 stars.
Airwolf: The Hunted (1984)
The Hunted is okay for Airwolf.
The Hunted has a keep jobs in America industrialist, which is like today's political theme with Trump, of a leaders who will update and keep factories in America, with a twist. Hawk and Santini are hired for protection, because globalist forces are out to get the leader and hired a pilot hit man. Caitlin the new be is let in on the mission, who has a new man in her life which is the Casanova style hit man; Played by the Val Character for the movie Payback. The guy always plays great scumbags. We have the great Airwolf matched against the hitman's prop plane. A big no contest. A bad miss match final. 6 stars.
Graveyard Shift (1990)
Not bad and started out strong.
Graveyard Shift has a drifter with a story in need of a job. The first half of Graveyard Shift is great; Great back ground development of a tough cotton mill town. A bad boss, the factory girl, and gritty people build the story. There is a job opening because of the huge mutant rat. Just a toxic work environment with a toxic rat infested factory! A great build up, but like the hot date that turns you down Graveyard Shift leaves you cold. Fearing a plant closer the boss creates a grave yard shift to clean up the mess into the basement. A story build up in the basement as the graveyard shift finds a hidden basement. A date with the rat is upon the viewer. Regrettably Graveyard Shift is disjointed, with the characters running around and baseless not knowing how to end the movie. I went with my cousin Eddie back in the day and asked him what did you think? Eh was my cousin's answer. Six stars.
Silver Bullet (1985)
Silver Bullet was an okay King movie. What works here is Kings characters. The kid in the wheel chair is a persons not a social message. Likable but with the usual teenage mischief. There is a brother sister relationship and a dysfunctional uncle Red all rolled into a Werewolf story. The 3 main characters weakness is their strong points which progress the story. An unusual circumstance of the cycle of the werewolf has the town scared and the brother sister combination must convenience uncle Red the dysfunctional big kid that their is a problem team must solve. The back ground small town story of the sheriff and town big mouths makes for a the story development for good story build up. All in the mix 6 stars
The Dead Zone (1983)
One of the better King movies.
One of the better King movies. The Dead Zone is a King movie before P C! The Dead Zone is another character driven story. The characters are just believable characters. John Smith is the usual teacher worried about his rep in a small town, and has a true love Sarah. Walken and Adams the star struck lover who are two co worker school teachers is a solid sub story. Walken/Smith get into an accident gains special power of seeing into the future. Cronenberg lets the story unfold in the sub stories. Smith predicts a fire, becomes involved into a serial killer case which makes the viewer becoming more involved with the story. What makes the film memorable is the plot twist; Greg Stillson played by Martin Sheen is not a political character or a social messages character that we have in today's P C culture of movies, but a character that is odd. The viewer does not like Stillson, but does not know why. Our instincts of distrust of a politician, co work, boss or minister character that want power and or something from you. The viewer is teased, but we never know is wrong with Stillson until the hand shake with the foreseer Smith. Well acted directed and okay story. Not the Shinning but still good. 7 stars.
Airwolf: The Truth About Holly (1984)
Well Holly is not what she seems!?! There is much Airwolf action at the beginning. aka Airwolf hits chopper assault still and rescues Holly. Then we have another mystery. Santini has many problems on the set, and there is a new female crew member who almost dies. Hawk finds Holly a little too much. Is it the mob or Holly causing the problems? A decent episode. Not the best or the worst. 5 stars.
Airwolf: Moffett's Ghost (1984)
Watchable the second season became a little less on the big budget, but formulated. Airwolf solves a mystery in a town etc. Well Moffett's Ghost has the same formula with a different twist. Airwolf has to bus a scientist of a secret mission into the U S S R and back. But and there is a big but here there is a computer virus in Airwolf. Big for a show done in 1984. A back door, time triggered virus. If a code is not added we a out of controlled virus. Airwolf can not go to the firm but uses a female private contractor to remove the virus which creates a little romantic tension. Will the scientist be saved or does Airwolf goes bonkers? Well a bit of both. Entertaining episode. 5 stars
Strange but it a good way
Firestorm is a strange episode but in a good way! What works in Firestorm is we got an old fashion U F O story! There is the town drunk and near bar fight and Alpha male posturing for a good start. Santini wonders about the friend. What works is the story about the ex general and the Vietnam experience, which glides into the middle of Firestorm. What is the former general up too? I love the editor for fading to black and white for the viewer and learn of the deep hidden pain of Hawke's past. The plot twist of the hidden camp and finding out what the is up too is brilliant. Airwolf to the rescue. I never will forget the fad to black and white with the atomic explosion. The ending hits like wallop. Very coldwarish with the feel for the 80's A memorable episode. 7 stars.
Airwolf: Sweet Britches (1984)
Airwolf meets the Rockford files.
Airwolf meets the Rockford files. Hawke has a war buddy, of course Hawke owes him, who is in trouble in a small town. Like Jim, Hawk has to investigate. There is a wild hunting rage with a few surprises. A nice lady air cop. A mean sheriff, and Hawk being a human target. Just like the Rockford Files, but with some jazzed up Airwolf action. Kinda liked this one. The bad guys got what's coming. 6 stars.
Airwolf: To Snare a Wolf (1984)
Airwolf with another plot too steal the plan back. LeGault the heavy is off to steal Airwolf with a plot twist. The women pilot is on the annoying side. There is filming for the army bait etc. Okay episode, but more of the same. The flight action is okay! 4 stars. Acted and directed well, just low of story.
Airwolf: Mind of the Machine (1984)
Kind of lame but hey it's Airwolf!
Mind of the Machine was pretty cool, back in the day before Sony playstation etc. The flight simulator was all right. There is a plot to steal Airwolf. Some cold war spy games, which make for a great plot twists. There is the guy from Kung Foo series vs Hawk in the simulator. Old scores to be settled. The ending turns mean, but a friend ship is built with some Airwolf action. More of a action show then Airwolf show with a sad ending. Okay episode, but forgettable. 4 stars.
Airwolf: And They Are Us (1984)
One of my more favorite episodes!
And They Are Us is a character driven episode. One of my more favorite episodes! Wishing us all bad luck is the line! There is an African civil war in a fictitious country with the usual political problems and a general who wants power. What the general needs is some mercenaries which one happens to be Hawk's old commander from Vietnam. And They Are Us has the old commander who chronically drinks, and is a combat junkie. From high to low to high again. Always needing more action. The old commander is a chopper pilot hero who shot down and Ace in the old war in needs another kill. The mercenaries fight over women, drink and even drink with the guy the unit shot down. Crazy for adrenaline and money is the mercenaries goal. The commander even has morals and does not kill Hawk and a down pilot, but want his adrenaline fix! A battle with Hawk! Great dog fighting with a pack of choppers against Airwolf! The viewer finds out is a superior machine. My friends and I had a good laugh watching And They Are Us back in the day.
Airwolf: Mad Over Miami (1984)
Not my favorite one
Mad Over Miami is not my favorite one! Well before Miami Vice we get the feel Miami Vice feel, but the story bogs down. Drama about who stole the money and and getting people free. There is some arms dealers and Airwolf action. Mad Over Miami is if your going skip an episode this one would be a good idea. If you watch Mad Over Miami the final scenes with Airwolf fighting the Cuban Air Force is worth while. Nothing much here. Just okay but lame. 4 stars.
Airwolf: Fight Like a Dove (1984)
I like this one!
I like this one! Fight Like a Dove is Hawke vs the Arm deal. There is a Nazi war criminal who is dealing anti air craft arms, and Hawk helps the Mossad with a daughter of a camp inmate. What work's here si Airwolf meets Jame Bond: we see weapon tests, and spy games. Double crosses, and of course Hawke and the Airwolf is tested against the new air defense system. My buddy Tony back in the day got a huge laugh out of this episode. Well it was a flavor of the 80's. 8 stars. If your an Air Force fan this episode is for you.
Airwolf: Echoes from the Past (1984)
Neat episode! Hawke is giving information about his brother and arrives in a Hospital after a chopper crash. After having a coma for 8 months Hawke must put together what is real and what is going on in the hospital. Like a good mystery Echoes from the Past keeps the viewer guessing. Hawke goes from one high to a new low. Everything is explained to Hawke and why Hawke is alone. Hawke has to give up Airwolf. A surprise twist, and the viewers keep's guessing in this Cold War thriller. 6 stars.
Airwolf: Proof Through the Night (1984)
Not bad, but not good either.
What works: A cool beginning with a mysterious Soviet chemical weapon. Airwolf has a mission pick up the deep cover agent from the Soviet Union. To make the mission possible Airwolf must drop off all armaments in order to save fuels making a even more dangerous mission. What does not work: There is pro Soviet Union family members which bogs the story line a bit. Interesting story which gives the Soviets a human feel. The end has Airwolf doing evasive maneuvers which keeps Proof Through the Night interesting. Watchable but not memorable episode. 5 stars.
Airwolf: Bite of the Jackal (1984)
Cheesy but hey it's Airwolf!
Cheesy but hey it's Airwolf! Bite of the Jackal is full of plot holes. How did Airwolf fly home with no fuel, where does Airwolf get supplies and maintenance in a Cave? But hey it's like being critical of Batman! Bite of the Jackal has a plot twists of the helpful miners which adds to a the story. The usual story of a bunch of people trying to capture Airwolf with Saniti as bait, with a little girl in toe to boot. All plot devices, are in check with this episode. Will hum why would the secret gas missile not destroy Airwolf in a crash? Good question. Anyways, the air combat make Bite of the Jackal worth watching. Bite of the Jackal is a cool name too. Okay! 6 stars.
Airwolf: Daddy's Gone a Hunt'n (1984)
Not bad. The cold war and Vietnam war experience was rolling on back in 84. Airwolf scripts follows the cold war theme. Daddy's Gone a Hunt'n has a child which look's like Hawke, and old Air Base experiences. A mix of the K G B and a mystery create a stew of a story. Good footage of military. There is an Airwolf show down with the Soviets, which makes Daddy's Gone a Hunt'n memorable.
Dadddy's Gone a Hunt'n has cliches, and is formulated with the usual ending of all story lines coming together, but still a good episode. 6 stars.
Airwolf: Shadow of the Hawke (1984)
Don't make shows on this budget anymore!
Don't make shows on this budget anymore! Unless the show is on A M C and or H B O! Well Shadow of the Hawke was right after the 84 Super Bowl win. I ran down to my buddy Tony's place! Tony is an Air Force fan, and we watched the Premier, which was one wild ride. Just like the Raiders and Allen destroying the defending champs Air hit the air in the same way. What works if the duality of Hawke a cocky guy with a soft heart. Loves the woods and eagles and playing the cello, but can go on dangerous mission and hit hard with Airwolf. What helps out Hawke is Santini his partner who balances Hawkes rough edges out and provides much needed logistics for the troubled flawed hero. Then Hawke's handlers is Arch Angel who sees Hawke as a much need asset. The viewer does not know if its a private or government out fit, but Arc Angel creates a partnership with Hawke. Anyways (I digress) Shadow of the Hawke has a high budget of tanks and troops, as Hawke and Santini go on a clandestine mission to retrieving Airwolf from Libya. Shadow of the Hawke has Hawke pitted with a arrogant bad guy and the viewer learns the reason of Hawke's pain. Fast paced action with real air footage, mixed with an interesting plot blended with humor. The Hollywood stunt scene is great. Shadow of the Hawke get's the viewer hooked.
Richard Jewell (2019)
Best movie of 2019!
Richard Jewell is one of the best movies of 2019! Why? Well Richard Jewell is a human tragidy story, which hits the viewer hard. Eastwood directs a story about the human condition. All of Eastwood characters are real life 3 d people. Richard Jewell is a character development story. Each character builds the story of Richard Jewell. The lead protagonist Jewell has frailties, which are reflected as both Jewell's strengths and weaknesses. Jewell is not a popular man at work. He is over zealous, and detailed oriented. Part of what builds the movie Richard Jewell is that people insult Jewell as the bubba class person of Georgia , but those negative bubba attributes saved peoples lives. What makes the story debatable but human is the portrayal of the F B I and media. The middle part has a reporter and Eastwood's interpretation of how she got the leak and the media attack of a hero Jewell is debatable, but the different theories of a ruthless media hits a nerve of the public today. The same with the tunnel vision of the F B I. is their interpretation of what the F B I did or are the foundations we trust of law enforcement and media tainted and human. The older I get the more doubts I have about so called professionalism. How much of the media, F B I is normal procedure and rest just trying to create a narrative from a tip from an employer and a F B I profile. The guy my be odd or fits a profile, but how far profiling is just educated guess or forcing a theory of Richard being involved in gay bombing conspiracy with gay men when no evidence is ever found!?! The reporter who leaked the story is hit with guilt, and the hard nose Lawyer hides a soft side are the details which makes the character real and human. Flawed but real. Richards mom (Bates) did a believable portrayal of a family in crisis. Richard Jewell is a compelling movie which asks about the government and media. As the movie states the 2 most powerful forces with so much power can go down hard on one man, is a thought provoking movie. 10 stars.
My sisters favorite show!
My sisters favorite show! May sis was in love with Shaun Casady back in the day so we watched The Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mysteries every Sunday. The music an graphics was great. They usual formulated mystery shows of the era. Hidden walls, tunnels, caves, town secrets etc. Much like the books my mother read to as a child the story follows the book well. The one episode I remember is when Shaun's girlfriend was kill and Shaun tried to get in with the bad crowd while brother got stuck surfing with Sharks. Never forgot the Porch race with the Corvette! Lot's of red meat in these series. The usual formulated ending with all the lose ends tying up. The surprise plot twists with a deranged trap. A last minute character figures out the trap and saves the day. We annualized the plot devices at university one year and all the devices made for an interesting show. Geared for a younger audience but a good throwback for a different era.
Eat My Dust (1976)
Not a bad movie!
Not a bad movie! Seen this movie as a child, then as a teenager then as an adult on late night. One of those cheesy 70's car chase movies. Ron Howard is a young buck who grabs the old girlfriend and their is a bounty to grab the Rolls Royce and gal back to the rich family. The Drive Inn movie Burt Reynolds style car chases creates a movie version of the Duke of Hazards before its time. The characters phoning in the Radio stations adds humor by pushing silly 2 d flat characters into bad scenario for some stupid fun. .The ending with the Rolls Royce is great. Eat my Dust is in the same making as the Gumball Rally, Smokey and the Bandit etc. 6 stars.
A Rumor of War (1980)
Close to the book!
Close to the book! I read A Rumor of War and the C B S movie stayed close to the book. Training and the Marine core life is excellently portrayed. The Vietnam experience of fighting a hidden enemy is great. A Rumor of War has in country (Vietnam) experience of drudgery and boredom suddenly changed into fear and violence resonates with the audience. The V C body scene and the chain of command hits the viewer. A Rumor of War back ground scenes of fighting an enemy which hides behind civilians creates stress which make the Davis character un-ravels in the fog of war. The recreation ofDavis dreams and the loses of his friends shows what goes on in the protagonist mind which follows the true nature of the book; one sees how the beloved Sargent character (Brian D) and the other Lt (Keith C) interact with Davis and creates a human side to war;the character development create an essence of the real experience when get from watching The Rumor of War book. The minor details from the book added to the T V version of A Rumor of War make the series one of the best t v movies made. Eight out of ten stars.
