FORGIVEN is a story of redemption and revenge, but also of conflicted identity. And that conflict lives in the dichotomy of CARTER's past and present. He loved his father very deeply, but he also wonders if he ever truly knew him. He wonders if maybe that terrible, mysterious man who killed his father was really the more authentic figure. And if both those men shared that darkness, that criminal violence, then perhaps deep down Carter shares it as well. Perhaps his own grim past and truer, darker nature will finally catch up to him, and he must inevitably become the same killer that he fears his father really was.
