‘Top Gun: Maverick’ Actress Monica Barbaro Signed By UTA
Exclusive: UTA has inked actress Monica Barbaro who stars as ‘Phoenix,’ the sole female fighter pilot, in upcoming Paramount/Skydance-Tom Cruise sequel Top Gun: Maverick due out on June 26.

The San Francisco, CA native recently appeared in ABC’s Stumptown and reprised her recurring role in Splitting Up Together for the same network.

Additionally, Barbaro starred in the Netflix series The Good Cop opposite Josh Groban and Tony Danza. She is best known for her role as Yael on the second season of the Lifetime critically acclaimed series UnREAL.

Clever and perceptive, Will has a problematic need to help “father” everyone around him, so when his sister’s husband dumps her, his instincts kick in and moves her into his house.

ABC Orders Single-Cam Comedy Pilot From ‘Splitting Up Together’ Creator
ABC has made a late addition to its pilot slate with the pick up of a single-camera comedy from Emily Kapnek.

The untitled project is described as a love story with a twist centering on New York City teenager Lennon Cochrane, whose life is turned upside down when she stumbles on a family secret. Lennon is further described as creative, rebellious, and endlessly indulged by her mother. She rarely heard the word no growing up. Raised to believe she could do anything, Lennon never worried about fitting into any conventional box. She found music early and it became the primary outlet for her self-expression. When her city life is upended, she struggles to adjust to her new circumstances.

Quintessa Swindell To Headline ABC Comedy Pilot From Emily Kapnek & Dean Holland
ABC has given a pilot order to an untitled single-camera comedy written by Splitting Up Together creator/executive producer Emily Kapnek and to be directed by Splitting Up Together director/executive producer Dean Holland. Like ABC has done with several of its hot comedy scripts this year, including Home Economics, the network quietly gave the untitled Kapnek/Holland project (aka Wild Child) a cast-contingent pilot order a few weeks ago.

Deadline can reveal exclusively that Trinkets star Quintessa Swindell has been tapped as the lead in the pilot, lifting the contingency. ABC Studios, where Kapnek is under an overall deal, is the studio.

The Untitled Kapnek/Holland is described as a “love story with a twist” centering on New York City teenager Lennon Cochrane (Swindell), whose life is turned upside down when she stumbles on a family secret.

Jason Winer To Direct Fox Dramedy Pilot ‘The Big Leap’; Adam Davidson To Helm NBC’s ‘Ordinary Joe’ Drama Pilot
Prolific TV director-producer Jason Winer is set to direct the Fox pilot The Big Leap, a ballet-themed hourlong comedy-drama inspired by the UK reality series Big Ballet, from The Passage writer/executive producer Liz Heldens and producer Sue Naegle. The project is a co-production between 20th Century Fox Television, where Winer is under a deal, and Fox Entertainment.

Written by Heldens, The Big Leap centers on a group of diverse underdogs from all different walks of life who compete to be part of a competition reality series that is putting on a modern, hip remake of “Swan Lake.” Heldens executive produces with Naegle, Winer and Peter Dale of UK company Rare Day, which produced the reality series.

Winer directed the pilots and is executive producer of both Perfect Harmony, which recently wrapped its first season on NBC, and comedy Single Parents, which is winding up its second season on ABC.

She already has more than 30 Emmy Awards, a star on the Walk of Fame, a Peabody, the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor and the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Now Ellen DeGeneres is adding another trophy to her list of accomplishments: the Hollywood Foreign Press Assn.’s Carol Burnett Award.

The honor, which was created in 2019, is intended to pay homage to impactful achievement in television and will be given during the 77th Annual Golden Globes on Jan. 5. DeGeneres, who was previously nominated for three Golden Globes for her eponymous sitcom, will be the second recipient of the award after Burnett herself.

The Ellen DeGeneres Show” executive producer Mary Connelly, who previously worked with Burnett on the sitcom “Mad About You,” says that DeGeneres is a natural successor. “These two women are both incredibly smart, incredibly professional,” she says. “Both know the importance of the audience in comedy and are well-prepared.

Written by Gersten, The Sidelines follows a newly separated mother of two (Larter), who, at age 40, decides to achieve her lifelong dream of becoming a professional cheerleader. Against all odds, she makes the squad for a local Detroit football team and becomes the accidental den mother to this group of scrappy, resilient young women — and rediscovers herself in the process.

Exclusive: Sierra Teller Ornelas, co-creator of Peacock’s upcoming comedy Rutherford Falls, is expanding her relationship with the studio behind the series starring Ed Helms, which she co-created and executive produces with him and Mike Schur.

Ornelas has signed a multi-year overall producing deal with Universal Television, a division of NBCUniversal Content Studios. Under the pact, Ornelas will develop and create new projects for broadcast, streaming and cable outlets.

Florida Girls” has been renewed for a second season by Pop TV, the cable channel said on Thursday.

The “unapologetically bold comedy,” which debuted in July, is inspired by the life of creator and star Laura Chinn (“The Mick”) and centers on “four friends who are making the most out of life while living below the poverty line in Clearwater, Fla.”
