AFI Life Achievement Award: A Tribute to Steve Martin (2015)
*** (out of 4)
The AFI Live Achievement Award is something that is only given to the greats of the format and when I first heard Steve Martin was getting the award I had to think a few seconds to see if he really belonged as an all-time great. After looking over his resume not only in the movies but also on television and on the comedy stage it's easy to see why he was given the award. Stage presenters include Lily Tomlin, Sarah Silverman, Carl Reiner, Mel Brooks, Queen Latifah, Diane Keaton, Tina Fey and Steve Carell. Ron Howard, Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep are also on recorded messages. For the most part this is an entertaining show as we see clips from all of Martin's best films and we even get his comments running throughout. I was a little surprised that there weren't more "A" list stars there like normal but those on stage offer up nice tributes.
