The Safran Company Inks First-Look Deal With Warner Bros, Taps ‘Rampage’ Producer John Rickard As President Of Production

Exclusive: Peter Safran’s The Safran Company has finalized a first-look producing deal at Warner Bros and has named Wrigley Pictures chief and Rampage producer John Rickard as president of production.

The deal brings together two esteemed blockbuster producers on the Burbank lot: Safran, who has been behind the $1.9 billion-grossing success of New Line’s Conjuring franchise and the highest-grossing DC movie of all time in Aquaman ($1.15B), and Rickard, who in addition to delivering such hits as the $428M-grossing Dwayne Johnson vehicle Rampage was also a producer on New Line’s $320M-plus-grossing Horrible Bosses series. Both are respected by Warner Bros and New Line brass as producers who get their hands dirty, show up on set, and are with the production beyond set-to-wrap.

Zachary Levi is very interested in taking on the role of Nathan Drake in the Uncharted movie. While the role currently belongs to Spider-Man: Far From Home star Tom Holland, the Shazam actor is ready and waiting, just in case that doesn't work out. Though, he has nothing but kind words to say about Holland. In any event, this could be a good option if Sony decides they want to go with a more game-accurate version of the character.

The former Chuck star and current DC superhero was recently a guest at Ccxp Cologne in Germany. During a panel, Zachary Levi was asked about possibly playing a character in a video game movie. As it turns out, he actually was pretty aggressive about pursuing Uncharted at one point. Here's what he had to say about it.

Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam movie will be written by Undateable creator Adam Sztykiel

It was just days ago that David F. Sandberg announced Heroes Reborn star Zachary Levi would star as the titular superhero in Shazam!, and now we have more headway on the Black Adam film starring Dwayne Johnson.

According to Tracking Board, Adam Sztykiel, the creator of NBC’s comedy Undateable, has been tapped to write the screenplay for the anti-hero’s solo movie.

Black Adam will act as a companion to Shazam!, focusing on Shazam’s arch-nemesis Black Adam. The character is very much considered an anti-hero, utilizing the same powers as Shazam but believing in a tyrannical government. Adam used his powers to free himself and others from slavery, but later rules his country Kahndaq with a tight grip and fear of the populist.

Adam Sztykiel's Spy Guys action comedy pitch helmed by Jorma Taccone picked up by New Line

New Line Cinema has picked up a Spy Guys pitch from Due Date writer Adam Sztykiel which Jorma Taccone is set to direct. Rickard Pictures' John Rickard produces alongside Lonely Island Boys and Taccone, with a story concerning a CIA operative who, while in Europe attending a friend’s wedding, is framed and becomes an enemy of the state. With no one to turn to, his only choice is to reveal his true identitiy to his normal friends, and get their aid in escaping, only to become wanted themselves. Now, the whole group's on the run.
