Hot TV Package: Michael Moorcock’s Fantasy Novel Series ‘The Elric Saga’ With Glen Mazzara & Vaun Wilmott

  • Deadline
Exclusive: New Republic Pictures’ Brian Oliver and producer Bradley J. Fischer acquired the exclusive rights to all works in Michael Moorcock’s seminal fantasy-horror series The Elric Saga. They are beginning to shop the property for series, with Glen Mazzara (The Walking Dead and The Shield) and Prison Break and Star Trek: Discovery‘s Vaun Wilmott attached to adapt the sci-fi fantasy tale.

At a time when platforms are looking for the next Game of Thrones, this certainly fits the bill in terms of a sprawling series. The Elric stories are Moorcock’s best-selling works, a series of complex and layered novels that take place across multiple dimensions of reality and alternative universes. It was Moorcock himself who coined the word “multiverse” as a fictional concept in his 1963 novel The Sundered Worlds, now a common term used to describe the broader worlds of movies and television franchises from Marvel and

Eli Roth Producing 10-31, a Slasher Movie with One of the Scariest Premises He's Read in Years
Hostel director Eli Roth is set to produce a new slasher movie for Orion Pictures titled 10-31. Not much has been revealed about the flick just yet, but Roth seems to think we could have the makings of a new classic on our hands. That's a bold claim, to be certain, but Roth calls the script one of the best he's read in years with a truly scary premise at its center.

According to a new report, 10-31/">10-31 was written by Ian Shorr and Peter Gamble, then subsequently acquired by Orion Pictures. Shorr and Gamble were working from a story by Laurie Ashbourne and screen story by Kathy Charles. While details are slim, the story is said to center on a young woman who takes her niece and nephew trick-or-treating. Along the way, she discovers a note inside a candy wrapper that states a killer is on the loose in her neighborhood.

Interview: Composer Nathan Barr Discusses Using a Human Bone Trumpet and Historic Pipe Organ to Create the Music for Season 1 of Carnival Row

  • DailyDead
A blend of Victorian elegance, forbidden romance, and otherworldly fantasy, the Amazon series Carnival Row taps into multiple genres and could be a daunting task for a composer creating the show's musical tone, but for a musician who owns a bone trumpet and a historic organ that's nearly 100 years old, it's just another day at the office. With experience working on multiple Eli Roth movies and comedic Broken Lizard projects, Barr is no stranger to creating music for a wide range of genres, and with the first season of Carnival Row now on Amazon in its entirety, we caught up with Barr to discuss working on the ambitious series, his previous projects with Roth, and preserving movie studio history by restoring and using the Fox studios Wurlitzer theatre organ.

Congratulations on Carnival Row. That's probably keeping you pretty busy these days.

Nathan Barr: Yeah, thanks, it's actually off my

Smith Stooge Slaps Sly, Pitt at Box Office

It was a great weekend for adult-themed films at the North America box office as the long-awaited film version of Downton Abbey led the pack by a wide margin. The British drama not only set an opening weekend record for Focus Features, it also easily beat fellow new arrivals Ad Astra and Rambo: Last Blood by a sizable margin.

Overall, the September box office continued to get rid of the lingering stench of August by offering product people actually want to see. Overall, the top ten was up a healthy 17% over last weekend’s numbers and a massive 45% over business from one year ago at this time when The House With A Clock In Its Walls debuted with $32.2 million.

Proving that event films come in all shapes and sizes, longtime fans of the ITV/PBS television production Downton Abbey turned out in large numbers this weekend for the big screen debut of the beloved series,

Waves Trailer Navigates an Emotional Minefield of Love & Loss

Waves Trailer Navigates an Emotional Minefield of Love & Loss
A24 has released the first trailer for Waves. This is the latest from writer/director Trey Edward Shults, who last gave us the atmospheric horror flick It Comes At Night in 2017. This looks to be a massive departure for Shults, as this is a straight-up human drama with a cast led by Sterling K. Brown. It's far too early to say whether or not this is an Oscar contender, but one would have a hard time not believing this will be part of the conversation after watching this initial footage.

The trailer opts to paint an atmospheric picture, as opposed to laying everything out in a nice, clean, linear way. And it's all the better for it. We see a ton of lush, gorgeous imagery set against an emotional backdrop. While not explicitly stated, it's crystal clear the family at the heart of this tale is going through some major emotional trials.

Movie Review – Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark (2019)

Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, 2019.

Directed by André Øvredal.

Starring Zoe Colletti, Michael Garza, Austin Zajur, Austin Abrams, Gabriel Rush, Natalie Ganzhorn, Dean Norris and Javier Botet.

Synopsis:

A group of teenagers are pursued by various supernatural beasties when they uncover an old book from a haunted house.

The importance of gateway horror for young audience cannot be overstated. Illicit viewing of terrifying and entirely age-inappropriate material was a childhood rite of passage for just about anyone with a penchant for scares in their adult days. Whether it’s a secretly borrowed DVD of a gory classic or the dog-eared pages of a Stephen King novel, the first taste of that forbidden fruit is always the most flavoursome. It’s for that reason that horror movies actually made for a younger audience are of vital importance, whether it’s the recent Jack Black double-whammy of Goosebumps and The House With a Clock In Its Walls

A real joy by Anne-Katrin Titze

Kyle MacLachlan with Anne-Katrin Titze in Batsheva on his role in Giant Little Ones: "It's the language and I think a perspective that is one that we don't necessarily hear that often." Photo: Anne-Katrin Titze

Keith Behrman's perceptive Giant Little Ones stars Josh Wiggins as teenager Franky, Kyle MacLachlan and Maria Bello as his parents, Darren Mann as best friend Ballas, plus Taylor Hickson, Peter Outerbridge, Stephanie Moore, Olivia Scriven, Kiana Madeira, Hailey Kittle, and Niamh Wilson.

In David Lynch's Twin Peaks, Kyle MacLachlan eerily transformed from Agent Dale Cooper to Dougie Jones and in last year's highly successful The House With A Clock In Its Walls, starring Cate Blanchett and Jack Black, Kyle morphed into a fantastically eldritch warlock, a role he enjoyed playing very much, he told me when we met. In high school he performed in Cole Porter's Anything Goes, Oscar Hammerstein II and Richard Rodgers' Oklahoma!

With a few rare exceptions, most notably The Big Bang Theory, movies significantly outperform off-network series on basic cable, they have longer shelf lives and deliver a wide range of audiences that can sample new original series launching behind them.

The list of recent FX movie acquisitions include Halloween, Bumblebee, Night School, The First Purge, Peter Rabbit, First Man, BlacKkKlansman, Book Club, The Meg, Breaking In, The House with a Clock In Its Walls,
