Storyline

Bing Crosby's last Christmas special, this show originally aired Nov. 30, 1977, after Crosby's passing. It is introduced by his widow, Kathryn Crosby. A musical highlight is Crosby singing "Little Drummer Boy" in counterpoint to Bowie singing "Peace on Earth". Ron Moody appears in a sketch as Charles Dickens with Twiggy, then musically as Ebenezer Scrooge with Twiggy as Tiny Tim, then as Fagin with the Artful Dodger, followed by Moody as Daniel Quilp with Twiggy as Nell Trent. Twiggy and Crosby sing "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas". The show ends with Crosby singing "White Christmas". Written by Anonymous

Trivia

The duet between Bing Crosby and David Bowie where Bing sings "The Little Drummer Boy" and David sings "Peace on Earth" has become a standard on radio stations at Christmastime. David Bowie performed on the Bing Crosby Christmas special because he was trying to normalize his career and because his mother liked Bing Crosby. Since he didn't want to sing "The Little Drummer Boy," his song was specially written for him by Ian Fraser, Larry Grossman and Buz Kohan. RCA later released the soundtrack on a single in 1982.
