As Ambassador to France, Thomas Jefferson had long hair under his wig, but according to the portrait of him by Marther Brown, he cut his red hair short in order to wear a white wig when serving as Governor of Virginia and as Ambassador to France. He later grew his long hair back again, which his red hair became tan with powder.

When referring to Benjamin Franklin's marriage proposal and how it would inconvenience his wife, Mrs. Adams should have known that Benjamin Franklin's common law marriage wife had died years earlier in 1774. He would have at least corrected her if she had not known.
