2020 PGA Awards: ‘Succession’ Takes Top TV Prize in Long March Toward Emmys

2020 PGA Awards: ‘Succession’ Takes Top TV Prize in Long March Toward Emmys
As the film industry’s long, excruciating march to the Academy Awards toils on, TV continues to surf painlessly in its wake.

On Saturday, Hollywood’s producers took center stage, with the Producers Guild of America Awards held at the Hollywood Palladium. While the ceremony celebrates both film and television, its reputation as a significant indicator in the Oscar Best Picture race often means that TV takes a backseat to its big screen brethren.

All the same, the celebration featured seven TV categories, in addition to honoring several luminaries of the medium, among them Netflix’s Ted Sarandos and “Grace and Frankie” creator Marta Kauffman.

Many of the evening’s awards served as an echo of the Emmy awards, with the producing teams for HBO’s limited series “Chernobyl” and Amazon Prime’s comedy series “Fleabag” repeating their series accolades from September.

But the big news of the evening came from the drama series category,

Peacock: Pricing Structure, Launch Date Revealed for NBC Universal Streaming Service

NBC Universal's Peacock will open its doors in April for a select group of people, before having a full-fledged launch in July, it has been announced.

Comcast's Xfinity X1 and Flex customers will get early access to the service beginning Wednesday, April 15, while everyone else will be able to stream effective July 15.

NBC Universal has announced a free ad-supported tier for the service called Peaock Free, but there will also be Peacock Premium ($5 a month for Comcast and Cox subscribers and $9.99 for everyone else).

There is a major caveat with the free option, however, with the company noting that subscribers will only have access to “select episodes of marquee Peacock originals,” as opposed to the full seasons the Peacock Premium crowd will have access to.

The network has a lot of scripted series in development, including a Saved by the Bell revival, a Battlestar Galactica reboot, a sequel to Punky Brewster,

Padma Lakshmi Puts The New Yorker on Blast for Confusing Her With Priyanka Chopra
Padma Lakshmi had the cleverest response after The New Yorker’s Instagram account confused the Indian author and “Top Chef” host with Indian actress Priyanka Chopra by accidentally tagging Chopra in a photo of Lakshmi.

The New Yorker has since deleted the Instagram post. Reps for Chopra and the magazine did not respond to TheWrap’s request for comment.

Seeing Palestinian Pain as Art at the Other Israeli Film Festival (Guest Blog)

  • The Wrap
As I sit here, writing about Palestinian films and The Other Israeli Film Festival, rockets lobbed from Gaza are falling once again in Israel, wreaking havoc and terror. The rockets do not fall on deaf ears — instead they are the percussive anthem that scores the Middle East while shaping the futility of peace. We are compelled to listen. We must listen. As Israelis and Arabs take cover, they are joined in the fallacy that existence is war. I grew up being told to hate my enemy. As a Jew who was far removed from Israel, I finally traveled there only to find Arabs and Israelis walking together, eating together, speaking and loving together.

Not all of them, just those visible to an American in search of an answer.

If The Other Israeli Film Festival, now underway in New York City, accomplishes anything, it is that art is inclusive and film

Russo Brothers to Produce Marvel vs. DC Docuseries Slugfest for Quibi

Joseph Baxter Nov 13, 2019

Quibi docuseries Slugfest will chronicle the comic book rivalry between Marvel and DC, executive-produced by the Russo Brothers.

Slugfest, a docuseries focused on the comic book industry rivalry between Marvel and DC, might just draw the ever-potent genre fandom demographic to the 2020-launching streaming platform, Quibi, the billion-dollar-backed, millennial-aimed streaming service designed for short-form stories.

A greenlight has been given to Slugfest by Quibi, adapting the 2017 book by Reed Tucker, Slugfest: Inside the Epic, 50-year Battle Between Marvel and DC. While the prospect of getting a docuseries that gives proper reverence to the comic book industry is exciting to any discerning fan, said excitement should be compounded with the series presence of Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame directors Joe and Anthony Russo, who will be involved as executive producers.

Serving as directors for Slugfest are the duo of Don Argott and Sheena M. Joyce, who helmed
