That prehistoric bully, King Koopa, has returned to the Mushroom Kingdom in a flying doom ship. This time he's accompanied by his seven bratty, evil children: Wendy O. Koopa, Morton Koopa Jr., Roy Koopa, Iggy Koopa, Lemmy Koopa, Ludwig Von Koopa, and Larry Koopa. They have stolen seven wands from the seven kings of seven worlds: Grass Land, Desert Land, Water Land, Giant Land, Sky Land, Iced Land, and Pipe Maze. So Mario and Luigi are off to stop the Koopas. New features are at their aid: the simple touch of a leaf can transform Mario or Luigi into part-raccoon and it allows them to fly. If they obtain a raccoon suit, they can briefly turn into a statue, and more. The fate of the Mushroom Kingdom lies in the hands of the Mario Brothers. Can they defeat the seven Koopa kids and even King Koopa himself?

Flip over any two cards and see if they match. Miss twice and you're out!
Originally, at the end of the Japanese version of World 5-1, you would go through the pipe. You would emerge on the other side of the wall, and would find the goal area after about 20 more blocks of vacant terrain. This ending was shortened in the U.S. version, as the "darkness" was moved ahead to where the pipe and wall used to be. The wall was removed to fix an odd, harmless glitch that would happen if you were to fly over the wall after going through the pipe. See more
