During the newsbreak which focused on the massacre of Port Joe Smith it shows a spire with the Statue of Angel Moroni on its top. According to religious custom with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the statue of Moroni is only used on the top of dedicated temples and is not found on any other structure regardless of its purpose. During the "Brain Bug" sequence, Carmen is speared through the upper body by a bug, which immobilizes her. The injury is massive, in the vicinity of the clavicle, subclavian artery and subclavian vein, and through the muscles in the region of the shoulder, trapezius and pectoral area. An injury of this type would lead to massive blood loss, and very significant damage to the muscles and bones that allow movement of the arm and shoulder. However, seconds later after being released by the bug during the rescue, Carmen's bleeding has stopped, she doesn't need to cradle the arm and uses it to touch Rico without any apparent difficulty, and happily swings her arm as she exits the tunnel, holding a weapon with the same arm a few moments later. In reality an injury of this type would be completely incapacitating and the functioning of the arm and shoulder would be severely limited for some time afterwards. See more »

Dialogue changes in German version: in school the teacher is talking about failure of democracy and how the veterans took control. Only citizens are allowed to vote. In the German version all this is changed about some talking about the war against the bugs; democracy is not mentioned. "Service garantees citizenship" is changed to "Fight for the future". This is probably the dumbest movie I've ever enjoyed. This movie reminds me of The Fifth Element in two ways. One, it's a good movie that you may not like when you first watch it. And two, the movie is better if not taken seriously.
First, let me get the bad things out of the way. The biggest thing is that the acting was really bad. Casper Van Dien (Rico) is probably the worst actor in the entire picture. The plot itself is a little predictable and the quick way in which they are resolved is a little corny. (I also think that the Drill Sargent Zims becoming a private was a useless plotpoint, one you probably won't even catch.)
But this movie is still very funny. It is a little bloody, but still enjoyable. The enemy "bugs" are very cool, and the battles scenes in the movie are some of the greatest futuristic battles I've seen. Most of the characters, although badly acted, are still pretty cool. (Especially the ones who survive for a longer time than the others)
I'd say go out and rent it when you're in the mood to have some fun. If you're looking for a serious but entertaining sci-fi movie, go see Star Wars or the Matrix instead.
