Randall Miller, Director of Deadly ‘Midnight Rider’ Shoot, Found a Way To Make Another Film
Randall Miller, the director who spent a year in prison after pleading to involuntary manslaughter when camera assistant Sarah Jones was killed during production of his film “Midnight Rider,” has directed another movie — despite a clause in his plea agreement that called for a 10-year probation in which he was “prohibited from serving as director, first assistant director or supervisor with responsibility for safety in any film production.”

However, Miller is now in post production on “Higher Grounds,” a comedy centered around a barista championship, that he shot in Serbia, Colombia, and the U.K. Miller’s attorney, Richard Thompson of Brecheen Feldman Breimer Silver & Thompson, said he believed the production did not violate the terms of the plea agreement.

Fleabag was the big winner at yesterday’s UK Royal Television Society Programme Awards, which were live-streamed to nominees and viewers because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The show picked up the scripted comedy award and comedy writer prize for creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge.

Chernobyl writer Craig Mazin took the drama prize, while Channel 5 was named channel of the year.

RuPaul’s Drag Race UK, the English spin-off of the hit reality series, was named best entertainment show, while Gentleman Jack was best drama series.

Saoirse-Monica Jackson won female comedy performance for Derry Girls, and Sex Education actor Ncuti Gatwa won best male comedy performance.

In the drama categories, performance awards went to Stephen Graham for The Virtues and Tamara Lawrance for The Long Song.

Derry Girl Saoirse-Monica Jackson: ‘Yes, we have a harsh sense of humour’

The star of Channel 4’s comedy hit talks fame, facial contortions and globalising Northern Irish slang

In Derry, Saoirse-Monica Jackson’s face is painted across a wall, several metres high, alongside the four other lead cast members of Derry Girls. The mural was unveiled earlier this year to celebrate the second season of the Channel 4 hit comedy, and has been warmly received by residents of the Northern Irish city. They are, it seems, proud of how Lisa McGee’s series has put Derry in the spotlight – and for a more positive reason than those usually depicted in the city’s murals, which traditionally focused on the Troubles.

When I ask Jackson – who grew up in Derry – what she makes of it, she has almost no words, just about managing to say “amazing”.
