Cobra Kai Season 3: What Does Kreese’s Return Mean?

Andrew Husband Aug 6, 2019

Martin Kove’s classic Karate Kid villain is back for more Cobra Kai.

In the tumultuous second season finale of Cobra Kai, John Kreese’s (Martin Kove) manipulative calculations and incessant bullying finally pay off for the hated Karate Kid villain. He takes the reopened Cobra Kai dojo back from his former student Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) and sends the latter on a rather dark and depressing path.

Or, as co-creator Josh Heald explained to Den of Geek while discussing the themes of the first two seasons, “we burned everything down.”

Throughout seasons 1 and 2, Johnny rekindled the Cobra Kai dojo in the hopes of reclaiming the youthful vigor that he and his fellow students once shared. But he quickly learned the dark nature of Kreese’s teachings and, both thanks to his own reflections and his interactions with Miguel Diaz (Xolo Maridueña), a young high school student

Exclusive Interview – Stunt Coordinators Hiro Koda & Jahnel Curfman discuss their Emmy-nominated work on YouTube’s Cobra Kai

We chat with Stunt Coordinators Hiro Koda & Jahnel Curfman about their Emmy-nominated work on YouTube’s Cobra Kai

In today’s fast paced streaming market, it’s safe to say that networks are only as good as their upcoming premieres. With new content continuously being expected, it only makes sense for networks to revisit some of the classic series audiences have grown up with in order to fill the roster. Examples being Fuller House, The Connors, Murphy Brown, The X-Files and the upcoming BH90210. Another standout example of this successfully being done is YouTube’s Cobra Kai. The story of Cobra Kai is set 34 years after the original The Karate Kid film and follows Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka), who opens the Cobra Kai karate dojo once again, and thus once again begins the rivalry he had with Daniel Larusso (Ralph Macchio). Daniel is finding it difficult to maintain balance in

My First San Diego Comic-Con: The Good, The Bad, and The Blisters

My first year at San Diego Comic-Con is in the can, and I have a few tips from my experience to pass on to anyone who may need it. My husband, Billy, and the other GeekTyrant originals, Joey and Free, have been going to Comic-Con for over a decade, so when I finally decided I could leave my kids and come to the convention and help carry the writing and editing load, Billy was gracious enough to try to prepare me. But this is where my first tip comes into play:

There is no preparing someone when it comes to San Diego Comic-Con:

I have attended the Phoenix Fan convention a few times, I have even attended Wonder-Con in Anaheim. There is nothing like this convention. It is larger in scope that I can describe. With well over 100,000 people in attendance, and a room (Hall H) that holds 7,000, it’s

Cobra Kai: What’s Next For Season 3?

Andrew Husband Chris Longo Jul 24, 2019

The co-creators of Cobra Kai discuss the themes season 3 will explore.

From Daniel Larusso’s (Ralph Macchio) return to Okinawa to a September shooting date, audiences learned a lot about the third season of YouTube Premium’s Cobra Kai series at the 2019 San Diego Comic-Con. Despite these and other occasional nuggets of news, however, co-creators Jon Hurwitz, Hayden Schlossberg and Josh Heald were understandably cautious about revealing too much too soon about what’s to come.

Or, as Schlossberg jokes during the trio’s conversation with Den of Geek, “spoilers!”

Thankfully, the Cobra Kai creative team was more than willing to discuss the specific themes that the critically acclaimed series would be exploring in season 3.

“Season 1 was a lot about the rivalry getting reignited between Johnny and Daniel,” Heald reminds us. “Season 2 became this kind of redemptive journey, where we were seeing John Kreese come back.

Highlights From My Comic-Con Interview With the Cast and Creators of Cobra Kai

My first San Diego Comic-Con was crazy and exhausting and wonderful. I was lucky enough to get into Hall H, see amazing new trailers and footage, make new friends, and interview the cast of my favorite show! Last Thursday, my husband and fellow GeekTyrant writer Billy and I got to go to the roundtable interviews for the cast and creators of the hit YouTube Premium series Cobra Kai. Here are the highlights from each of the interviews, and an extra special surprise at the end.

First we got to interview writers Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz, and Hayden Schlossberg. We found out that all three of these writers were fans growing up of the original movies and are really excited about the new fanbase that spans multiple generations. When asked if they could give us any hints about the new season, Schlossberg simply said, “Okinawa.”

I then asked if they could

Cobra Kai Season 3: Daniel is Going Back to Okinawa

Joseph Baxter Jul 19, 2019

The third season of Cobra Kai will tap into The Karate Kid Part II, taking Daniel back to Miyagi’s homeland of Okinawa.

Cobra Kai Season 3 is still far away, likely set for YouTube Premium in the spring of 2020. While the show held a Comic-Con panel yesterday, the dais – stars Ralph Macchio, William Zabka and the rest of the cast, with creators Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg – were stingy with the plot details, save for one that was just revealed: The show is heading to Okinawa!

Indeed, the third season of Cobra Kai will see Daniel Larusso return to The Karate Kid Part II’s setting of Okinawa, as first confirmed by Ralph Macchio himself to EW. As Macchio told the magazine:

“For season 3, something I can tease is that, albeit we have a lot of cleaning up to do based on the events of

Cobra Kai Season 3 Will Go Back To Okinawa and More Info From Our Comic-Con Interview

We (Billy and I) got to interview the cast and series creators of the amazing YouTube Premium show, Cobra Kai. I geeked out harrrd, and professed my lifelong crush for William Zabka straight to his face, and got a picture with him, so I can pretty much just leave Comic-Con now. I can take my blisters and my picture and go home happy. But I won’t because there is still so much to see!

Anyway, we interviewed Zabka, who plays Johnny Lawrence; Ralph Macchio, who plays Daniel Larusso; Martin Kove, who plays John Kreese; plus Xolo Maridueña (Miguel), Tanner Buchanan (Robby), and Mary Mouser (Sam). We also got to grill the creators Josh Heald, Hayden Schlossberg, and Jon Hurwitz. They were all so sweet and gracious, and we got a couple great bits of info for the upcoming season.

The juiciest bit of info divulged by the creators was just one word: Okinawa.

‘Cobra Kai’ Season 3: Daniel Larusso Will Return to Okinawa

‘Cobra Kai’ Season 3: Daniel Larusso Will Return to Okinawa
[Editor’s Note: The following contains spoilers for “Cobra Kai” Season 2.]

Cobra Kai” will continue to be the best (around) for at least another year. The cast and crew were on hand Thursday at Comic-Con in San Diego to discuss the most recent season and tease what’s coming for Season 3. Among those on the panel were the Karate Kid himself, Ralph Macchio, William Zabka, Martin Kove, Xolo Maridueña, Mary Mouser, Tanner Buchanan, and executive producers/creators Jon Hurwitz, Josh Heald, and Hayden Schlossberg.

In its second season, the YouTube Premium series reached beyond the bad blood between enemies Daniel Larusso (Macchio) and Johnny Lawrence (Zabka) to include the students in their dojo. Add Johnny’s old taskmaster John Kreese (Kove), and the stage is set for a full-blown, rib-cracking dojo vs. dojo war. The season culminates with a rumble in the kids’ high school where Robby (Tanner Buchanan) kicks Miguel (Maridueña) over the railing of a balcony
