Some two months after the pilot was shot, Freeform has given a series order to Last Summer, an “unconventional thriller” that counts Jessica Biel (The Sinner) among its EPs.

Taking place during three different summers — 1993, 1994 and 1995 — Last Summer is set in a small Texas town where a beautiful and popular teen, Kate (played by Project Mc2‘s Mika Abdalla), goes missing. Seemingly unrelated, a girl named Jeanette (Tell Me Your Secrets‘ Chiara Aurelia) goes from being a sweet and awkward outlier to the most popular girl in town — and, by ’95, is the most despised person in all of America.

Ranking The Films Of Kevin Smith Post “Jay And Silent Bob Reboot”

Last week, Kevin Smith released Jay and Silent Bob Reboot as a two night special through Fathom Events. The movie is a lot of fun and very much in the wheelhouse of Smith fans. To celebrate that release, as well as the upcoming further unveiling of the film through a Roadshow style release, complete with Smith Q&a’s after, I’m going to be updating my list of the filmmaker’s best work to date. This flick is another quality effort of his, though really just meant for the fans, as well as Smith himself. Still, if you get a chance to check it out, it’s well worth your time… The film is, obviously, a sequel to Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, while being a bit of a rebook/remake as well. In fact, it’s also a satire of how Hollywood reboots all intellectual property these days.

Watch Ben Affleck Honor Kevin Smith at Jay & Silent Bob Tcl Handprint Ceremony

Watch Ben Affleck Honor Kevin Smith at Jay & Silent Bob Tcl Handprint Ceremony
Ben Affleck and Kevin Smith reunited this year to work on Jay and Silent Bob Reboot. The two had been estranged for a number of years. Now that they're back together, Affleck took it upon himself to honor Smith and Jason Mewes at their Tcl Chinese Theater handprint ceremony. In addition to Affleck, Smith's daughter Harley Quinn also spoke, which made just about everybody tear up when she referred to the duo as her two dads. We all know Smith was crying, because that's what he does when he's happy.

Kevin Smith gave Ben Affleck his first real start in the entertainment business, though Mallrats was not a huge movie by any stretch of the imagination. However, Smith, Affleck, and Jason Mewes kept working together and created a cult following that is bigger now than it ever was. Affleck took the time to thank Smith for everything that he has

‘Jay and Silent Bob Reboot’ Review: Kevin Smith Gets Introspective

A lot happens in eighteen years. Look at Kevin Smith. While his daughter was born two years prior to Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, fatherhood had only begun. Then he moved away from the View Askewniverse (with varying success), started a podcasting career, and suffered a heart attack that sparked weight loss and the overdue mending of burnt bridges. So while Jay (Jason Mewes) and Silent Bob’s (Smith) first journey to Hollywood wielded them as immature idiots with so little character development that an entire shoehorned subplot about cat burglars was added for hollow drama alongside the lowbrow antics, a more mature Smith couldn’t just go back to that well. These characters now needed to add substance to their own story.

I was skeptical when Jay and Silent Bob Reboot was announced because a majority of diehard fans probably did want more of the same: misogyny and gay jokes.

Jason Mewes Talks Jay and Silent Bob Reboot, Jay's Future and More [Exclusive]
Jay and Silent Bob are back on the big screen together after a decade and some change away. The iconic duo, played by filmmaker Kevin Smith and his trusty "hetero life mate" Jason Mewes, were last seen leading their own flick in 2001's Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. Now, Smith is returning to his ViewAskewniverse with Jay and Silent Bob Reboot, a star-studded sequel that will bring back a ton of fan favorites, while introducing quite a few new faces to the universe.

This is the first time Kevin Smith has visited his own cinematic universe since Clerks II in 2006, and his first movie since suffering his near-fatal heart attack last year. Jason Mewes is once again carrying this movie on his shoulders as Jay, just as he did in its 2001 predecessor. Not only that, but the two will be heading out on a tour starting later this month

Film Review: ‘Jay and Silent Bob Reboot’

  • Variety
In a film culture overrun by Marvel epics, wild-stunt action flicks, and other grandiose juvenilia, it is often said that the mid-budget, script-driven movie for adults is becoming a thing of the past. But don’t tell that to Kevin Smith, whose “Jay and Silent Bob Reboot,” a shaggy antic throwaway that premiered Tuesday in the first of two one-night shows at 600 theaters (it will travel out after that in a 65-city road-show release), stands (sort of) as a proud exception to the rule of corporate blockbuster overkill.

It’s without doubt a script-driven movie — not just because Smith, after 25 years as a filmmaker, wouldn’t know an expressive (or well-lit) camera angle if it bit him, but because he remains, in his rowdy stoner never-made-a-dick-joke-he-didn’t-like way, a furiously flowing wordsmith, one who can write the kind of spontaneous sick-comedy monologues that heat up the screen. The budget for

Harley Quinn Smith Talks Jay and Silent Bob Reboot and More [Exclusive]
Harley Quinn Smith is the daughter of Clerks director Kevin Smith. While that may have been her introduction to showbiz, the younger Smith has very much made her own way and has started to carve out her own, unique career. But that doesn't mean she can't find time to work with her dad these days. Such is the case with Jay and Silent Bob Reboot, which unites the Smiths in the View Askewniverse.

Previously, Harley Quinn Smith starred in Tusk and Yoga Hosers, both directed by her dad. But here, she's acting alongside Kevin Smith's Silent Bob and Jason Mewes' Jay, which is new. To make things even more interesting, the young Smith plays Milly, who happens to be the daughter of Jay.

I recently had the chance to speak with Harley Quinn Smith, not just about Jay and Silent Bob Reboot, but about her pretty incredible year overall,

Kevin Smith Is Building a New Empire On Low-Budget Sequels and Shameless Bravado

Kevin Smith Is Building a New Empire On Low-Budget Sequels and Shameless Bravado
Kevin Smith repeats himself a lot. Doing press interviews for “Jay and Silent Bob Reboot,” he keeps dishing about the heart attack that nearly killed him last year, the impact it had on his current motivations, and how lucky he feels to keep at his unique brand of dopey, comedic filmmaking. More significant, however, is the evolution of Smith’s business acumen. Even as the film industry faces tremendous uncertainty, he may have finally cracked the code that will keep his work relevant: Kevin Smith is in the sequel business.

Some 25 years after “Clerks” became a breakout Sundance hit and single-handedly created the geek-bro genre, Smith is finding new ways to mine his catalog. His new film returned to the bumbling weed dealers he introduced in his debut, and last visited nearly two decades ago with “Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.” This time, he said, it had to be about the money.

American Pie Stars Jason Biggs & Shannon Elizabeth Reunite, Tease Possible Reboot
American Pie stars Jason Biggs and Shannon Elizabeth have reunited 20 years later, and the two both seem open to seeing a reboot of the franchise. In the original installment of the popular movie series, Biggs and Elizabeth had a very memorable scene wherein the former blew his chances for a sexual encounter with the latter.

Two decades later, Jason Biggs and Shannon Elizabeth are both appearing in Kevin Smith's new comedy Jay and Silent Bob Reboot, and Biggs and Elizabeth caught back up on the red carpet at the Tcl Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles for a screening of the movie. Speaking about a possible new movie, Biggs had this say about the idea.

"I am always down. You will never hear from me any reluctance, but I haven't heard anything for a little while. It is the most fun I have ever had working on anything. I love that cast,
