Spiral Continues Saw Legacy with an R-Rating for Bloody Violence and Torture
Saw 9, officially titled Spiral: From the Book of Saw, is set to arrive in theaters just in time for the summer movie season, and fans need not worry about things being toned down this time around. The Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) has officially handed down an R-rating to the upcoming installment of the long-running horror franchise. That means Chris Rock should be in for a bloody, brutal ride.

The ninth entry in the Saw franchise will not be breaking tradition, as every previous movie was R-rated. It's tough to come up with violent deathtraps cooked up by a sadistic killer and have things air on the PG-13 side of the line. Luckily, Lionsgate didn't feel the need to tone things down. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. With 2017's Jigsaw grossing more than $100 million at the box office, it's certainly not broken yet. Per the MPAA, here

Nate Parker Dismisses Critics of ‘American Skin’
Nate Parker, whose new film “American Skin” received a number of negative reviews at the Venice Film Festival, said Monday that he doesn’t care what critics say and that his goal is to make art that connects with audiences.

“I made this film for people to see it,” Parker told Variety in an exclusive interview at the Deauville Film Festival, where “American Skin” is having its French premiere Monday. He described the film, a drama about racial injustice in the U.S., as a “call for action.”

But the film does not have any domestic or international distribution in place yet – apart from Italy, where the film’s producer, Tarak Ben Ammar, will release it through his banner Eagle Pictures. “American Skin” was supposed to be screened for select buyers at Toronto, but Ben Ammar, who produced the movie with Mark Burg, said he decided to cancel the private

Nate Parker On ‘American Skin’ & His Journey Since ‘The Birth Of A Nation’:”The Last Three Years Have Been A Humbling Experience” — Venice
Nate Parker and Spike Lee led an impromptu Venice Film Festival press conference this afternoon for Parker’s sophomore feature American Skin, which is playing in the festival’s Discovery section.

The drama about police violence and racism in America is directed, written by and stars Parker and is his first feature since news of rape allegations from his college days surfaced during the release of Birth Of A Nation in 2016. Parker had stood trial in 1999 and was acquitted of the charges, but the controversy derailed his promising directing debut.

Parker was asked during the presser about his journey since making his first movie, “The last three years have been such a humbling experience for me. I’ve gained so much wisdom from people in my circle. The reality is that three years ago I was pretty tone deaf to certain situations that were happening. I learnt a lot from it.

Nate Parker Apologizes for Being ‘Tone Deaf’ in Response to Resurfaced Rape Charge
Looking to make a comeback, director Nate Parker was in contrition mode Sunday at the Venice Film Festival, admitting that he had been “tone deaf” in his past remarks regarding the rape charge he faced as a college student.

“The last three years have been such a learning experience for me,” he said at a press conference on the Lido for his new film, the police-brutality drama “American Skin.” “I feel like I have gained so much wisdom from people in my circle,” he added.

“Three years ago I was pretty tone deaf to the realities of certain situations that were happening in the climate. And I’ve had a lot of time to think about that, and I’ve learned a lot from it,” he said. “And being tone deaf, there were a lot of people that were hurt in my response, in the way I approached things. I apologize to those people.

Nate Parker's 'American Skin' Producer: He "Deserves a Second Chance"

Nate Parker's 'American Skin' Producer: He
Tarak Ben Ammar and Mark Burg think Nate Parker deserves a second chance. The two producers bankrolling American Skin, Parker's follow-up to his 2016 directorial debut, The Birth of a Nation, say they have zero reservations about working with the writer-director despite the controversy — a 1999 college rape trial at which he was acquitted — that nearly sank Parker's career.

"We have to assume facts: One, he was acquitted and is innocent. Two, he's a great film director and [American Skin] is a great movie," says the Paris-based Ben Ammar, whose producer credits include 2007's ...
