Parkland School Shooting Survivors Recall Harrowing Details in ‘Voices of Parkland’ Documentary
Two years after the deadliest high school shooting in U.S. history, leaving 17 dead and 17 others wounded, the painful memories Parkland survivors take with them illustrate those affected by the tragedy are still experiencing residual trauma.

For instance, the mouth smell of gunpowder serves as a particular trigger.

Dylan Kraemer, one of the kids [who survived the shooting], talks about how the smell is in his mouth and his nose,” Jeff Vespa, who directed the documentary “Voices of Parkland,” told Variety at the film’s premiere Wednesday at the Theatre at the Ace Hotel in downtown Los Angeles, recalling the Parkland survivors’ stories he gathered in the days after the shooting.

“Just to say, ‘the smell is in my mouth.’ You get it. You understand what he’s talking about,” Vespa said. “That’s not something you think about. You never think, ‘What does it smell like in a school shooting?’”

10 Best Movie Songs of the 2010s, From ‘Let It Go’ to ‘Remember Me’ (Photos)

  • The Wrap
Like movie scores, a great song can transport us back to the experience of watching the film, reliving the feelings it brings up or helping the audience connect with the characters on a deeper level. A powerful song can tell a story, stir our emotions and have a life of its own on the pop charts or in dance clubs or coffee houses. And for better or worse, an entire generation of kids knew every word to “Let it Go.” So, whether it’s a sultry new track for a James Bond adventure or a fast-paced earworm, here’s a sampling of some of the best songs of the decade.

10.”Earned It” from “Fifty Shades of Grey

Friday Ratings: ‘Frosty The Snowman’ Wins The Night With Annual Christmas Special
There must have been some magic in that old silk ratings hat they found, as the annual CBS airing of the animated Frosty the Snowman topped the night’s ratings wars.

The 50th airing of the Rankin-Bass animation special, based on the Walter E. Rollins and Steve Nelson song and featuring the voices of Jimmy Durante, Bille De Wolfe and Jackie Vernon, had an 0.7 rating among the 18-49 set and drew a total audience of 4.04 million in the 8 Pm slot. The numbers were steady with last year’s airing.

CBS doubled down on its Frosty magic with an 8:30 Pm airing of Frosty Returns. The 1992 special, featuring Jonathan Winters as the narrator and John Goodman doing the Frosty voice (with music by Devo’s Mark Mothersbaugh) had an 0.6 and 3.45 million audience. Repeats of Hawaii Five-0 and Blue Bloods closed out the eye network’s night.

At Fox, the WWE Friday

16 Rock Stars Turned Movie Composers, From Danny Elfman to Jonny Greenwood (Photos)

16 Rock Stars Turned Movie Composers, From Danny Elfman to Jonny Greenwood (Photos)
John Williams is great and all, but there aren’t a ton of his iconic film scores that I might actually want to listen to while working out. For that, you need to turn to the rock stars, the guys who perform to 20,000 screaming people one night and then collaborate with David Fincher the next. They make the kind of scores that raise the eyebrows of writers at Pitchfork and inspire bedroom hipsters to go out and see an indie film that might otherwise never get an audience.

Trent Reznor

The Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor burst out onto the film score scene when he composed the icy, digitized beats for David Fincher’s “The Social Network” in 2010. He and his collaborator Atticus Ross won the Oscar that year, and he’s since had a wave of creativity on other Fincher films like “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” and “Gone Girl.

Listen to an Exclusive Track from Composer Trevor Gureckis’ Bloodline—Original Motion Picture Soundtrack

  • DailyDead
Ever since seeing Bloodline at the 2019 Popcorn Frights Film Festival, I've had its infectious, synth-infused soundtrack stuck in my head, as the original music by Trevor Gureckis is like its own character in the film, giving the serial killer story a deadly pulse that hearkens back to some of the most memorable collaborations between John Carpenter and Alan Howarth. With Bloodline—Original Motion Picture Soundtrack coming to digital via Lakeshore Records on September 20th (the same day the film will be released in theaters and on Digital and VOD by Momentum Pictures), we've been provided with an exclusive track from the film's score to share with Daily Dead readers.

Below, you can listen to the exclusive "Good Boy" track from Bloodline—Original Motion Picture Soundtrack ahead of its September 20th release from Lakeshore Records.

In case you missed it, read Heather Wixson's 4-star review of the film, and we

Devo Set Desert Daze Gig, Deny ‘Farewell Tour’ Announcement

When the Desert Daze festival released its lineup earlier this week, it shocked many Devo fans by announcing not only that the group was making a rare live appearance, but that it was part of their “farewell tour.” It turns out this was also news to Devo, who are emphatically denying any such tour is happening.

“#1 If we were going to do a farewell tour we would not call it a farewell tour,” Devo bassist Jerry Casale emailed in a statement to Rolling Stone. “#2 If we were going to do

Jazz artist and film composer Terence Blanchard was presented with the Bmi Icon award at Wednesday night’s Film, TV and Visual Media Awards of performing-rights society Broadcast Music Inc. in Beverly Hills.

Blanchard, composer for many of Spike Lee’s films, was honored for his “unique and indelible influence on generations of music makers,” said Bmi president-ceo Mike O’Neill. “His music makes powerful statements about American tragedies that must not be forgotten, while also encouraging all of us to heal.”

“You are my heroes,” he told the black-tie crowd of film and TV composers. “Everything that I’ve written for the screen,

‘The Lego Movie 2’ 4K Blu-Ray Review

The Movie

Upon a second viewing, The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part is a pretty solid sequel. While the film is a mostly worthy follow-up to it’s predecessor, it’s also hard to top the brilliance of the 2014 original. Even though that film managed to capture lightning in a bottle, The Lego Movie 2 is further proof that a fantastically unique concept can only be taken so far before it becomes normalized. Such is the case with the sequel, but it’s also a pretty well told story nevertheless. It’s a story that not only manages to do a good amount of universe building, while also feeling timely and important on a thematic level.

Although the first film managed to be a response to the time in which it was made, it also remains a timeless story with a strong message. Whereas The Lego Movie 2 is also a

“The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part” Is A Worthy Sequel

Who wasn’t surprised and delighted by The Lego Movie when it sort of came out of nowhere a few years ago? An animated film based on a line of toys, it had every right to be an utter cash grab with few in the way of redeeming qualities. Instead, it was creative, hilarious, and touching, with a wealth of emotion buried beneath the surface. Now, Friday brings the inevitable sequel in The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part, which can’t fully recapture the magic, though still offers plenty for fans of the first one. Lightning hasn’t struck twice, keep that in mind, but the end result is undoubtedly a lot of fun. Obviously, this is a sequel to The Lego Movie. Set five years after the first one, Bricksburg is full on under siege by the threat that the Duplo invaders represent. Everything is decidedly not awesome,

Lego Movie 2 Has a New Song That Will Definitely Get Stuck Inside Your Head

Lego Movie 2 Has a New Song That Will Definitely Get Stuck Inside Your Head
We have a brand new featurette for The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part, which threatens viewers with a song that will get stuck inside of their heads. One of the more memorable parts of the first Lego movie was the theme song Everything is Awesome by Canadian pop duo Tegan and Sara. The characters in the movie loved the song and it was a great source of joy for them. In this case, the latest dose of pop music to invade the world of Lego is being used as a form of threat and torture.

The featurette showcases Lucy, who has been captured by the sequel's new villain, who is then subjected to torture by pop music. We then cut to some of the cast members during recording sessions singing the lyrics, "This song's gonna get stuck inside your head." It's blunt and to the point. Though, it doesn't

Tony Hawk is Developing a Broadway Musical Based on The Skateboarding Novel Slam

Here’s an interesting bit of news that I never thought I would be reporting on. Legendary pro skateboarder Tony Hawk is developing a Broadway musical!

The Musical will be based on Nick Hornby’s 2007 novel Slam, which Tony Hawk is a character in. Hawk will serve as a producer on the musical and he will also be the skate choreographer because there will obviously be skateboarding in it!

The music and lyrics for the production will be created by composer Mark Mothersbaugh (Dogtown and Z-Boys, Pee-Wee’s Playhouse, The Royal Tenenbaums, Rushmore, The Lego Movie, Thor: Ragnarok) and SpongeBob SquarePants the Musical‘s Kyle Jarrow will be handling the book.

Producers describe Slam as “a funny, heartfelt coming-of-age story about 17-year-old Sam, a kid from a troubled background who finds refuge and hope in the world of skateboarding. When he falls in love for the first time, with a girl named Alicia,
