Votes: 1,170

John Pilger quote: "We journalists... have to be brave enough to defy those who seek our collusion in selling their latest bloody adventure in someone else's country... That means always challenging the official story, however patriotic that story may appear, however seductive and insidious it is. For propaganda relies on us in the media to aim its deceptions not at a far away country but at you at home... In this age of endless Imperial war, the lives of countless men, women and children depend on the truth or their blood is on us... Those whose job it is to keep the record straight ought to be the voice of the people, not power."

25. The Eternal Jew (1940)

62 min | Documentary, History

Under the guise of a brutally honest documentary, this malevolent propaganda film aims to be an "indispensable tool in the hands of the Aryan race", designed to depict the "true" Jew when the masks of western civilisation fall off.

Director: Fritz Hippler | Stars: Curt Bois, Charles Chaplin, Albert Einstein, Adolf Hitler

Votes: 3,424

Excerpt from Wikipedia:

The Eternal Jew is an anti-Semitic German Nazi propaganda film, presented as a documentary.

Hitler and Goebbels believed that film was a vital tool for molding public opinion. The Nazis first established a film department in 1930 and Goebbels had taken a personal interest in the use of film to promote the Nazi philosophy and agenda. Soon after the Nazi takeover, Goebbels insisted in speeches that the role of the German cinema was to serve as the 'vanguard of the Nazi military' as they set forth to conquer the world.

The Goebbels film, The Eternal Jew, appears to have been intended as a violently anti-Semitic version of the 1933 British film of the same name {Aka: The Wandering Jew (1933) (1933)} which argued that Jews were victims of unjustified persecution throughout history.

In 1937, a special wing of the Propaganda Ministry put on an art exhibition in Munich titled 'Der ewige Jude'. It followed this up with the publication of a book of the same title, consisting of 265 photographs, each with a derogatory caption asserting the degeneracy of the Jewish race.

In November 1938, Goebbels made a series of attacks against the Jews in the German media that were a factor which resulted in the pogrom known as 'Kristallnacht'. Despite the emotional satisfaction afforded the Nazis by carrying out their antisemitism with direct violence, Kristallnacht was considered by Hitler to have been a political disaster both within Germany and internationally. Not only did the brutality indirectly caused by Goebbels evoke harsh criticism internationally, the mixed reaction in the German media showed a lack of broad-based support for antisemitism and violence.

Hitler expressed his frustration and anger at the mixed response from the German media and insisted that, instead of openly calling for violence against the Jews as Goebbels had in instigating the pogrom, Nazi propaganda should 'elucidate events of foreign policy' in such a way that the German people themselves would call for violence against the Jews.

In response to Hitler's harsh reprimand, Goebbels launched a campaign to promote the anti-Semitic views of the Nazis to the German populace. He ordered each film studio to make an anti-Semitic film. In the case of 'The Eternal Jew', Goebbels conceived of a film that would communicate to the German people the same anti-Semitic message that had been the theme of the 1937 Munich exhibition. Hitler preferred films like 'The Eternal Jew' which presented the Nazi anti-Semitic agenda openly and directly; however Goebbels disliked the crudeness of such straightforward approaches, preferring the much more subtle approach of couching anti-Semitic messages in an engaging story with popular appeal. The film Jud Süß (1940) (1940) is an example of Goebbels' preferred approach.

From IMDb Trivia: "The Wandering Jew (1933) (1933) {a version of The Wandering Jew (1933) (1933)} was the first American movie in opposition to Adolf Hitler's Nazi regime. It also featured the great Yiddish actor Jacob Ben-Ami, in his lone film role, that of a Jewish painter driven from Nazi Germany. Shot in New York during the summer of 1933, it incorporated newsreel footage into the film. As of 2000, the film has been newly restored to its original running time of 100 minutes."

26. Human Resources Documentary (2010)

119 min | Documentary

Human Resources is a documentary about Social Control, examining the history, the philosophy and ultimately the pathology of elite power.

Director: Scott Noble | Stars: Michael Albert, Morris Bermann, Noam Chomsky, John Taylor Gatto

Votes: 119

Noam Chomsky quote: "The Leninist system was one of the greatest blows that socialism suffered in the 20th century, maybe second only to fascism. As Lenin took power, one of his first acts was to destroy the socialist institutions that had arisen in the pre-Bolshevik period: Soviets, factory councils, constituent assembly, which was dominated by left-social revolutionaries and largely peasant-based, and of course he went to war against the Anarchists, a major war, he tried to wipe them out."

Narratress: "During the Cold War and beyond, TV programming would increasingly resemble an experiment in fear-based conditioning applied on a global scale. The thesis of John B. Watson that fear, not love, is the guiding force in human society, would no longer be confined to the realm of theory. It would become our reality."

All we knew was that our parents and our forefathers were guilty and we had to work hard in order to make up for it. Sometimes new people entered the camp but I never saw anyone pardoned for their crime and allowed leave. So none of us thought we would ever leave this place.
