Going to this movie I didn't know what to expect. I love movies that take place in space, so that was the main reason why I went to this film. I wasn't familiar with the story nor the director or the actors of this film. Honestly, I don't really like Russian cinema, at least those movies that are shown here in Lithuania. I'm glad to say that I was pleasantly surprised by Salyut-7.
Visually it looks awesome. All of the space scenes are breathtaking and very nice to look at. Some of the shots and camera movements reminded me of Gravity.
Lead actor Vladimir Vdovichenkov gave a standout performance in the movie. His character was well written and throughout the film I really cared about him and his well being. He also shared a good chemistry with Pavel Derevyanko who was playing as his partner in this extraordinary space mission.
Some of the scenes really had me on the edge of my seat. Sometimes it got really emotional and it didn't feel forced.
As for flaws, I would say that towards the end it got too over the top and didn't feel like the true story Salyut-7 is based on.
All in all, I really enjoyed this film and was pleasantly surprised by it. I would recommend it to everyone who loves space and Sci-fi movies.
