The hero with no name nor motivation
8 April 2017 | by See all my reviews

This movie is rather faithful to the DOA's novel which was released back in 2009. It's a sort of thriller with a nameless hero, a mysterious killer whose motivations will remain unknown, except that he had to deal with the Colombian cartels. The fierce and ruthless gangs from South America. This scheme reminded me a little Robert Enrico's LE SECRET, adapted from a Francis Ryck's novel, but this was more an espionage tale. Here, the convincing Tomer Sisley could have the Jean-Louis Trintignant's character in this story which takes place in the French country side. This is not a remake of the Enrico's film. The gunfight scenes seem a bit awkward, lacking something to be totally convincing, but that's a good film. The bad guy seems to be a sort of Asian Madds Mikkelsen and I loved the killer's sidekick, an ordinary man who plays an improvised killer assistant. Thsi character is really odd and interesting. I have always loved supporting actors and characters, far more than the lead. Some horrible torture sequences, not for the squeamish. And one more thing: the little girl who is supposed to have a white mother and a black daddy looks more a mix-up between a Spanish descent and an Indian...
