It’s all joyous silliness, as a My Little Pony movie should be, packed with clean humor and pony puns.

Yes, My Little Pony: The Movie, like its television predecessor, is all dressed up in bubbles and cupcakes and rainbows. But it’s so jam-packed with rousing girl power, it passes the Bechdel Test with (literally) flying colors.

Viewers who don’t want to visit Ponyville should just skip to the next town.
50
My Little Pony: The Movie tries to get meta on the sickly sweetness of its subject matter.
40
The jaunty score of musical numbers (yes, there are songs) sounds vaguely familiar and yet instantly forgettable. Its only contribution to the film is to extend its running length unnecessarily by about a quarter of an hour.

It might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but for those who already love it, it’ll be just right.

IGN
My Little Pony: The Movie falls apart in the end because it resolves its conflict the way that conventional blockbusters do, and not in the way that My Little Pony does.

While the main characters appear to have been given a bit of Powerpuff Girl sass by screenwriters Meghan McCarthy, Rita Hsiao and Michael Vogel, it ultimately does little to goose the limited hand-drawn 2D animation.

Slant Magazine
Visually plain and ploddingly paced, My Little Pony: The Movie suggests four episodes of My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic smushed together with a Sia music video tacked on at the end.

Some people clearly had a good time making this film. Whether you have a good time watching it depends almost entirely on your Pony love walking in.
