Did You Know?

The murder victim's name in this first/pilot episode is an offbeat insider's reference. The wealthy murdered man is "Henry Morganthau", and in real life, the Morganthaus have long been one of New York City's most accomplished families. Even more pointed in terms of cops and crime, the real-life Henry Morgenthau's grandson is Robert Morgenthau, who was the longest serving District Attorney in Manhattan's history, from 1975 until he stepped down in 2009. Jake Peralta: I'll take that action.

Not Impressed but Sparked Enough Interest For Further Viewing
16 February 2015 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

The pilot episode of this show begins by introducing you to some of our characters. Jake Peralta (played by Andy Samberg) is a goofy but intelligent NYPD detective who never takes anything seriously, his determined partner Amy Santiago thinks he is a joke and is always trying to best him. There is a change in command in the precinct that they work in and the new Captain Ray Holt takes charge. The Captain takes a new no nonsense kind of approach which doesn't fly well with Peralta's childish behavior.

Overall, I was not impressed with the opening episode. Most of it was poorly acted, corny humor, and with ratings as high as they are for this show I just expected more. The script was not written very well or maybe it was just the delivery. I thought it started to redeem itself in the end and decided that I would have to watch a few more episodes before I can make a final opinion on the show. I think it could go either way, good or bad.
