“Jumanji” is likely to take in between $15 million to $20 million in its fifth frame, which will lift its total domestic take to around $320 million — making the action-comedy one of the top 60 domestic performers of all time, with plenty of drawing power in the weeks to come. International performance for the Dwayne Johnson-Kevin Hart vehicle has been impressive with $385 million so far.
“12 Strong,” produced by Alcon Entertainment, Black Label Media, and Jerry Bruckheimer, will pose the greater threat, with tracking showing an opening in the $14 million to $17 million range at 3,002 locations — including Imax, premium large format, and Dolby Cinema. Warner Bros. is handling distribution through its output deal with Alcon.

With the Mlk weekend box office added in, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle has brought in a grand total of $674.5 million worldwide. That's already a sizable amount more than Warner Bros.' Justice League, which made $654.4 million worldwide during its run. This both indicates how much of a surprise hit the Jumanji sequel has been and how much of a disappointment Justice League was. Especially considering how well Wonder Woman did financially and critically.

Over the weekend, I was back at my local multiplex to see the quite wonderful Coco. On the way in, I saw the manager of said picture palace, and we had a bit of a chat. He’s a friendly man, and just the kind of manager you want: always checks that everyone’s okay, is there if anything goes wrong.

I don’t think I was alone in inwardly sighing when I first learned of a reboot/sequel to Jumanji. I don’t hold massive affection for the original (although I thought Zathura was great), but still enjoyed it.
“Jumanji” will finish the holiday with $291.6 million in 29 days, now ranking as the eighth highest grosser released in 2017. The action-comedy, starring Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart, has won the first two weekends of 2018 after debuting Dec. 20 in the shadow of “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” — and began significantly outperforming forecasts.
“Jumanji” has been the key factor in keeping overall business for the four days solid in the $197 million to $200 million range, up at least $10 million from the 2017 total. That leaves the year-to-date domestic total at $560 million through Monday — 4.9% ahead of the same point last year, according to comScore.

Local romance comedy Ex-File 3 (The Return Of The Exes) has further consolidated itself as the year’s first megahit, adding $76.3m for a 17-day total of $293.3m. It has surpassed two 2017 Chinese New Year blockbusters, Kung Fu Yoga and Journey To The West: The Demons Strike Back, to become the fifth highest grossing local film of all time and the eighth highest grossing film overall.

Elsewhere, Star Wars: The Last Jedi has overtaken Beauty And The Beast to become the tenth highest global release of all time and the top 2017 global release as $30.3m boosted the running total to $1.265bn compared to Beauty’s $1.264bn. Working Title’s Darkest Hour rules the waves in the UK with a thunderous $5.8m debut.
