The cautious curtain raising for “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” continues this week as Vanity Fair reveals more from their latest issue dedicated to the upcoming blockbuster. And some fresh details have spilled about a couple of a new characters joining the ranks of the franchise.

Most significantly, it’s been revealed that Benicio Del Toro will be playing the enigmatically named DJ (which I’m sure is short for a much longer, more spoilery name), who plays an “unscrupulous drifter,” which the galaxy seems to be filled with.

‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ Sailing for $80 Million Launch, ‘Baywatch’ at $40 Million

21 hours ago | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Johnny Depp’s “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” is poised to dominate Memorial Day moviegoing, while Dwayne Johnson’s “Baywatch” should deliver decent results during the holiday.

Forecasts place the fifth iteration of Disney’s “Pirates” franchise at about $80 million at 4,276 North American locations during the Friday-Monday weekend. The international launch — which begins Wednesday — should deliver between $150 million and $175 million.

“Dead Men Tell No Tales” is only the third wide release film in 2017 for Disney, which has so far seen blockbuster results from “Beauty and the Beast” and “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” with a combined $1.8 billion in global box office so far. The estimated budget for “Dead Men” is $230 million, so Disney needs to see the same kind of ticket sales.

There are very few certainties in this world, aside from this fact: The return of “Wynonna Earp” can’t come soon enough.

To celebrate the return of the Syfy drama on June 9, Variety can exclusively reveal the show’s key art for Season 2.

If you’re not caught up on the first season of this supernatural, comedically-tinged action drama, you can rectify that situation immediately (or over the long weekend) by watching that first set of episodes on Netflix. The show made my Top 20 New Shows roster for 2016, and I’m looking forward to Season 2 like a person lost in the desert anticipates a long drink of water.

As fans who watched that enjoyable debut set of episodes know, Wynonna (Melanie Scrofano) avenged her father’s death in Season 1, but, not surprisingly, a new set of problems loom over the fast-talking, quip-slinging heroine.
