Peaky Blinders Season 4 Episode 5 Review – ‘The Duel’

Liam Hoofe reviews the fifth episode of Peaky Blinders season 4…

With 2017 drawing to a close, Peaky Blinders is making a late surge to make it on to our ‘top 10 of the year’ lists. The season’s fifth episode ‘The Duel’ was another tightly packed, high-octane thrill ride that set the show on course for an explosive finale next week.

The show started as it meant to go on, with Luca Changretti and his men ambushing Tommy, only to discover that they had been set up by him and Polly. The sequence was perfectly executed and a thrill to watch. Tommy managed successfully to box in the Italians, coming face to face with Changretta in one of the episode’s most tense moments. Of course, though, we are going to have wait for their big final showdown until the next episode, and this week’s collision was halted by the arrival of the local police. »

The first read-through for Game of Thrones season 8 left the cast in tears, says Sophie Turner

Apparently, the scripts for the final season of Game of Thrones left the cast in a very emotional state. In an interview with EW, Sophie Turner — who was plugging the upcoming X-Men: Dark Phoenix — inevitably talked about Game of Thrones, and the reaction that the cast had during the first read-through:

“We had the read-through a while ago and at the end of it, we were all on our feet, applauding and crying. We had everyone there, everyone who’s had any part in this. It was amazing. We closed the blinds and shut ourselves off from the rest of the world and had six hours in this room just reading it through and crying and laughing. We had our emotional bit and then we thought, ‘Well now we’ve got eight months. We’ve still got a while to get through!’”

It’s no surprise that the cast would »

How Guillermo del Toro’s version of Pacific Rim 2 was originally going to end

The sequel to Guillermo del Toro’s 2013 mecha-kaiju-brawler Pacific Rim has come a long way from its humble beginnings. The movie was originally helmed by Del Toro until he ultimately decided to step down. The reason for this seems to boil down to scheduling: due to Legendary Pictures being sold to Chinese company The Wanda Group, production needed to be delayed by nearly a year. It was then that Daredevil’s Steven DeKnight took over directorial duties. Since then, the film has undergone a massive makeover, which is clearly evident in the first trailer.

So, what would have Guillermo’s film have looked like? Speaking to Collider. Paul Austerberry — who served as production designer for the original Pacific Rim — revealed how Pacific Rim 2 was originally going to end:

“And then of course I think we finished in the west coast, I think it was San Francisco that we were gonna end up in. »

Test audiences for The Disaster Artist refused to believe the film was based on a true story

Oh hi readers. Did you know that test audiences for James Franco’s The Disaster Artist refused to believe that the film was based on a true story? In an interview with SlashFilm, The Disaster Artist co-screenwriter Scott Neustadter reveals that some test audience members thought the films story was entirely fictional:

“It’s funny, because when we were testing this movie initially with an audience of people, the one thing that they said at the end, which we couldn’t believe, was that they didn’t think any of this was true. Even though it says, ‘Based on a True Story,’ they just thought it was another Franco/Rogen [project], making something up and a funny character they were doing. The side-by-sides — some people still watch this movie and cannot believe, until the side-by-sides, that there is footage out there like what we shot. So that’s something that I think we, »

WWE Clash of Champions Predictions

Liam Hoofe with his predictions for this Sunday’s WWE Clash of Champions Event…

WWE will give us its final pay-per-view event of the year this Sunday night when WWE SmackDown presents ‘Clash of Champions.’ The event, an old WCW favourite, will see every one of SmackDown’s titles defended and will be a big indication of who will be heading into WrestleMania season with gold around their waist. The company has been fairly consistent with their events this year so can Clash of Champions see out 2017 quite nicely? Let’s take a look at each match and predict who is walking away victorious Sunday night.

Pre-Show: Zack Ryder Vs Mojo Rawley

Zack Ryder and Mojo Rawley have done very little to build this feud since the duo broke up on SmackDown a few weeks back. With it being the only match on the pre-show, though, it will likely get »

Video Game Review – Yooka-Laylee on Nintendo Switch

Sam Thorne reviews Yooka-Laylee…

You’ve got to feel a little bad for Playtonic games. The studio formed from several former key players at Rare during their golden years launched an insanely successful kickstarter campaign, to fund a spiritual successor to Banjo Kazooie, but only received lukewarm praise at best. To make matters worse, they missed their chance to get their 3D platformer Yooka-Laylee on the Nintendo Switch while the software library was still relatively scarce, now with the dawn of Super Mario Odyssey, it seems unlikely that Yooka-Laylee will receive even a tiny fraction of the sales and attention that it would had otherwise. Nevertheless, let’s take a look.

Getting straight to it, Yooka-Laylee is a great port that functions well on Switch, plays smoothly and looks great in both docked and handheld mode. The initial delays for the game were due to the Unity engine not co-operating well with Switch, »

Second Opinion – Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017)

Star Wars: The Last Jedi, 2017

Written and Directed by Rian Johnson.

Starring Daisy Ridley, Mark Hamill, Adam Driver, Carrie Fisher, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Peter Mayhew, Anthony Daniels, Laura Dern, Kelly Marie Tran, Benicio del Toro, Billie Lourd, Gwendoline Christie, Lupita Nyong’o, Jimmy Vee, Tim Rose, Warwick Davis, Hermione Corfield and Veronica Ngo.

Synopsis:

Having taken her first steps into the Jedi world, Rey joins Luke Skywalker on an adventure with Leia, Finn and Poe that unlocks mysteries of the Force and secrets of the past.

One of the big complaints about Star Wars: The Force Awakens was that it felt like an old band having one last run with a new singer (say, Queen for example). They played the old hits, the stuck to the same chord structures and they didn’t try anything too new in case people just wanted to hear the favourites again. »

Universal has arrived at the significant mark of $5 billion at the global box office.

We reported last week that Warner Bros. had managed to eclipse the impressive $5 billion figure at the global box office, and now their rival studio, Universal, has also achieved the feat.

This is the second time in Universal’s 105 year history that they have reached $5 billion in a year and has managed to do so thanks to monster hits like The Fate of the Furious and Despicable Me 3.

The total includes $1.605 billion domestically and $3.398 billion internationally, helping Universal join Warner Bros. and Disney at the box office milestone.

The Fate of the Furious was Universal’s biggest draw with $1.23 billion worldwide, which happens to be the 11th highest grossing figure of all time and is only the sixth film to cross $1 billion at the international box office (outside North America).

Second Opinion – Brigsby Bear (2017)

Brigsby Bear. 2017.

Directed by Dave McCary.

Starring Kyle Mooney, Mark Hamill, Jane AdamsBeck Bennett, Claire Danes, Jorge Lendeborg Jr., Greg Kinnear, Kate Lyn Sheil, Ryan Simpkins, Matt Walsh, Michaela Watkins, and Andy Samberg.

Synopsis:

Brigsby Bear Adventures is a children’s TV show produced for an audience of one: James. When the show abruptly ends, James’s life changes forever, and he sets out to finish the story himself.

If you only saw the opening ten minutes of Brigsby Bear, you’d be forgiven for thinking that it was some kind of bizarre, post-apocalyptic survival drama. There’s an underground bunker with equations scrawled on the walls, gas masks, and animatronic animals scattered beyond the confines of the dugout. However, though the film is certainly bizarre, a post-apocalyptic drama it is not. Rather, it is a heart-warming comedy about a man-child trying to make his way in a world that he knows nothing about. »
