Steven Soderbergh shares his Lucasfilm rejection letter

Director Steven Soderbergh has shared his Lucasfilm rejection letter.

It’s no doubt that many a filmmaker’s dream is to land a gig working with Lucasfilm, the studio behind classic hits such as Star Wars and the Indiana Jones movies.

This would have been just as true, if not more so, back in 1984, when up and coming filmmaker Steven Soderbergh submitted his material to the studio. Unfortunately, the director didn’t receive the response he would have hoped for and has now shared the letter he received via his Twitter page.

Soderbergh has since gone to hit the big time of course, becoming one of Hollywood’s most acclaimed directors with features such as the academy award winning Traffic and Ocean’s Eleven.

Saw Gerrera returns in Star Wars Rebels ‘In The Name of the Rebellion’ clip and images

With the fourth and final season of Star Wars Rebels having begun earlier this week [read our review here], the next episodes will feature the return of Forest Whitaker as his Rogue One: A Star Wars Story character, the rebel fanatic Saw Gerrera. Unlike most of the Rebellion, however, Saw’s tactics are very harsh. He doesn’t separate Imperials from civilians and deems any action, including the death of prisoners, acceptable.

In the clip for ‘In The Name of the Rebellion’, Saw and Rebel leader Mon Mothma spar over the methods of their war against the Empire. Watch the clip and check out the images below…

“In The Name of the Rebellion: Part One”

As members of the Rebel Alliance, Ezra and the Ghost crew must accept a mission to spy on an Imperial outpost they would rather destroy.

Supergirl Season 3 Episode 2 Review – ‘Triggers’

Martin Carr reviews the second episode of Supergirl season 3…

Things start off light and fluffy in National City this week, as we get momentary flashbacks, a montage of morning couples and a semi-conscious Kara dreaming of her the missing Mon-El. Thankfully events soon take a darker turn as themes of grieving, personal boundaries and rites of passage life lessons combine to ground proceedings.

Within the perimeter of ‘Triggers’ we find a formidable female who more than matches Kara’s physical strength with an advantage all her own. Yael Grobglas brings us one cool customer in the shape of Psi, a psychically fuelled, ice-cold bank robber who taps into personal fears to aid her escape. What this does is add another dimension to the episode as we get to glimpse inside Kara’s head and better than that see it manipulated. These elements bring action sequences alive and overlay more serious »

Ricky Church reviews Superman Reborn…

The past few years have seen Superman’s status in the DC universe complicated to say the least as the company rebooted the line in The New 52 with the original Superman and New 52 Superman briefly coexisted until the death of New 52 Superman. With the start of DC Rebirth, the original Superman has resumed his superhero ways with help from his wife Lois and their young son, Jon, but with an additional mystery: there is a separate and normal Clark Kent working in the Daily Planet whose motives and origins are unknown.

Superman Reborn is the first crossover between Superman and Action Comics and delves into the mystery of this other Clark Kent as well as what apparently happened to Superman when New 52 was created. Written by Dan Jurgens and Peter Tomasi, the book (which collects Actions Comics #973 – 976 and Superman #18-19) tells a fun and compelling »

Marvel’s Inhumans Season 1 Episode 4 Review – ‘Make Way For… Medusa’

Martin Carr reviews the fourth episode of Marvel’s Inhumans

There is a reason why Inhumans continues to nosedive in the ratings. It fails to engage, lacks logical narrative reasoning and on top of that is frustratingly fragmented. Our king and queen Medusa and Black Bolt are standoffish, stoic, bossy, slightly condescending and two-dimensional, while Maximus, Crystal, Karnak and Gorgon lack development. Money has clearly been spent on certain elements while other parts drift into television movie of the month cliché. Relationships are forged too quickly, emotional pay offs seem given rather than earned and everyone spends too long doing not much.

We have hit episode four of eight and this still feels like pretty thin stuff. In just over two and a half hours of screen time mutiny has taken place, royalty has been exiled, while Black Bolt has been arrested, rescued and reunited. Medusa has gotten into a fight, »
