Suicide Squad 2 Targets The Shallows Director Jaume Collet-Serra
11 July 2017 6:47 PM, PDT
Just a few months after rumors of Mel Gibson directing Suicide Squad 2 surfaced, it seems the studio has set their sights on another filmmaker. Jaume Collet-Serra, who directed Unknown and Run All Night for Warner Bros., is reportedly the studio's top choice to take the helm on this sequel. Warner Bros. reportedly looked at a number of directors, including Mel Gibson, for this coveted directorial gig, but sources claim the studio is focused on putting Jaume Collet-Serra in the director's chair for this superhero sequel.
Deadline broke the news of Jaume Collet-Serra's potential involvement today, which comes just four months after the studio locked in a new Suicide Squad 2 writer, with Adam Cozad (The Legend of Tarzan) coming aboard to write the screenplay. Original Suicide Squad director David Ayer revealed last summer, just days after the first movie hit theaters, that he was already working on the story for the sequel. »
Tarantino Directing Manson Family Movie, Brad Pitt, Jennifer Lawrence in Talks
11 July 2017 6:26 PM, PDT
A year and a half after The Hateful Eight hit theaters, director Quentin Tarantino is finally getting ready to make his follow-up, which is reportedly a new take on the Charles Manson family murders that rocked Los Angeles in the late 1960s. The director has reportedly reached out to Brad Pitt, who he worked with on 2009's Inglourious Basterds, and Jennifer Lawrence, to star in this currently-untitled project. The Weinstein Company's Harvey and Bob Weinstein will be involved as executive producers and co-financiers, with the project currently being shopped to studios to co-finance and co-distribute the film, much like how The Weinstein Company and Universal jointly distributed Inglourious Basterds.
The Hollywood Reporter broke the news today, with sources claiming that Quentin Tarantino is currently putting the finishing touches on his screenplay. The full package could be ready to shop to studios by the Labor Day holiday, with the current plan »
Bumblebee Movie Wants Spider-Man: Homecoming Actor in the Lead
11 July 2017 5:32 PM, PDT
After a brief role in Spider-Man: Homecoming, rising star Jorge Lendeborg Jr. has entered talks for the male lead role in Paramount's highly-anticipated Bumblebee spin-off. While no details were given about the character he's playing, he joins Hailee Steinfeld, who was the first cast member to sign on back in late May. The actress will be portraying a tomboy who holds an after-school job as a mechanic, although it isn't clear quite yet if there will be a connection between her character and Jorge Lendeborg Jr.'s character.
The Hollywood Reporter broke the news on the casting earlier today although it still isn't announced how many primary roles need to be filled. While no story details have been confirmed, a report from last month revealed this Bumblebee spin-off will be set in the 1980s, long before the first Transformers movie that debuted in 2007. The movie is also said to feature "considerably fewer Transformers, »
Clint Eastwood Begins Shooting 15:17 to Paris with Real-Life Heroes
11 July 2017 5:12 PM, PDT
Clint Eastwood just made a pretty bold and interesting decision for his next movie. Instead of casting actors to play real-life heroes, he simply decided to cast the actual real-life heroes. The 15:17 to Paris, which is based on the Isis terrorist attack that was prevented by three friends in August of 2015, is going to star Anthony Sadler, Alek Skarlatos, and Spencer Stone as themselves in the big screen retelling of their heroic tale that saved the lives of hundreds of people on a train from Brussels to Paris. The movie has already begun production this week.
According to Variety, Clint Eastwood had been looking at actors to play the three heroes in 15:17 to Paris and he and Warner Bros. had reportedly settled on actors to take on the roles. However, at the last minute, they decided to bring in Sadler, Skarlatos and Stone to do it themselves. This is pretty non-traditional, »
Future Planet of the Apes Sequels Won't Retell Original Story
11 July 2017 4:23 PM, PDT
War is almost upon us and it doesn't look good for humankind. Well, at least the humans in War for the Planet of the Apes. As an audience member, things are looking pretty great. The third movie in Fox's rebooted Planet of the Apes franchise has been scoring big with critics and will clean up at the box office this weekend. Looks like this is going to be the conclusion to a truly great modern trilogy. But is that the end for director Matt Reeves and the franchise? Perhaps not. Assuming he can fit future Apes movies into his Batman schedule, he wants to keep going.
Matt Reeves recently spoke with Fandango in anticipation of War for the Planet of the Apes arriving in theaters this weekend. During the chat, Reeves revealed that he wants to do more of these movies and thinks that, instead of retelling a story we already know, »
The Rock Presidential Campaign Committee Forms for 2020 Election
11 July 2017 3:57 PM, PDT
While we're still a long ways away until the 2020 Presidential Election, current President Donald Trump may find himself going up against The Rock. After hinting in a May interview that he would consider a run for President of the United States in 2020, paperwork has been filed on behalf of Dwayne Johnson for a campaign entitled "Run the Rock 2020," with the Federal Election Commission. While a lot more has to happen between now and the 2020 election, it seems that the action icon and WWE Superstar has taken his first step towards the Oval Office.
The Hill reports that the paperwork for the "Run the Rock 2020" organization was filed on Sunday on behalf of Dwayne Johnson by a man named Kenton Tilford, who has a West Virginia address. It isn't ultimately clear what this man's connection is to Dwayne Johnson, or how he is affiliated with this potential Presidential campaign. The Rock »

Now we finally get to see the next chapter of the Doug Glatt saga, with a few more familiar faces returning, along with some new characters as well. After an exclusive Canadian release earlier this year, Goon: Last of the Enforcers is getting ready to hit American theaters this fall.
Entertainment Weekly debuted this trailer and the new poster for Goon 2, following the first two trailers that debuted in November 2016 and in February 2017, respectively. At that time, though, only the Canadian release had been announced, with the sequel hitting theaters on March 17 in Canada. »
Disney Is Struggling to Cast Aladdin Live-Action Lead
11 July 2017 1:40 PM, PDT
Disney has been having a ridiculous amount of success with their recent live-action adaptations of animated classics. They are currently working on a live-action version of Aladdin, but they have hit a bit of a speed bump. Actually, it's a pretty huge speed bump. According to a new report, the studio and director Guy Ritchie are having a really tough time locking down a lead actor for the role of Aladdin after seeing more than 2,000 auditions so far.
The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that the Mouse House is currently searching far and wide for their new Aladdin, but it hasn't been going well. They are committed to casting someone of middle-eastern or Indian descent in the full-blown musical, which is good for those who have been angry about white-washing in some Hollywood movies. But since they need someone who can sing and act, they have had a reportedly really »

Nepal Newspaper Accidentally Uses Spider-Man Parody Poster Featuring Trump
11 July 2017 12:23 PM, PDT
Marvel and Sony's Spider-Man: Homecoming debuted in the U.S. and most of its international markets last weekend, although a newspaper in one international territory is coming under fire for using a parody poster to promote the film. A Reddit user noticed that the Nepalese newspaper The Himalayan Times used a Spider-Man: Homecoming parody poster, which featured a now-infamous photo of U.S. President Donald Trump and Saudi King Salman bin Abdulazizin, along with DC superhero Batman and actor Pauly Shore, in a section of the newspaper that features movies which are currently playing. The poster was created by artist Mike Mitchell, which he posted on Twitter back in May.
This embarrassing gaffe was first spotted by a Reddit user named "Q-Q_Reddit," which eventually got the attention of Mike Mitchell, who posted that The Himalayan Times had used his artwork. The electronic version of The Himalayan Times newspaper from that date, »
The Rock's Rampage Wraps Production
11 July 2017 12:02 PM, PDT
That's a wrap! Dwayne Johnson, who apparently doesn't enjoy sleeping, has just finished filming his next blockbuster, Rampage. The upcoming video game adaptation is set to hit theaters on April 20, 2018, and is getting ready to head into post-production as principal photography is officially finished. The Rock made the announcement on Instagram and took some time to single out one of his Rampage co-stars in the process.
Dwayne Johnson is very active on social media, no matter how busy he is, and he has shared quite a bit from the set of Rampage during filming. With filming wrapping up, he decided to give some love to Naomie Harris, the Oscar-nominated actress who starred in Moonlight, as well as starring as Moneypenny in the last couple of James Bond movies. Here's what The Rock had to say about her, as well as finishing up work on Rampage.

How Baby Driver and Guardians Vol. 2 Soundtracks Kept from Crossing Over
11 July 2017 11:28 AM, PDT
Edgar Wright should be feeling quite good about himself right now. Baby Driver is one of the best-reviewed movies of the year, currently sitting at 96 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, and is well on its way to becoming Wright's highest-grossing directorial effort to date. One of the most recognizable elements of the movie is the outstanding soundtrack. It turns out, Edgar Wright had some concerns that he was going to use some of the same songs that James Gunn used for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.
The director recently spoke with radio station Kpcc about Baby Driver and discussed the soundtrack a bit. Prior to the release of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, it occurred to Edgar Wright that there was at least a chance both movies could have some of the same songs on their soundtracks. So what did he do about it? He had a little chat with James Gunn. »

11 July 2017 11:03 AM, PDT
John Oliver, the host of HBO's popular weekly series Last Week Tonight, has become the latest to join the talented voice cast for Disney's live-action Lion King reboot. The actor will be lending his voice to Zazu, the colorful bird who serves as an adviser to King Mufasa (James Earl Jones). In the original 1994 animated classic, Zazu was voiced by Mr. Bean star Rowan Atkinson, with Jeff Bennett voicing the character in the new animated series The Lion Guard.
The Wrap broke the news of this casting, which comes just a few months after Seth Rogen and Billy Eichner signed on to voice Pumbaa and Timon, respectively. Director Jon Favreau will utilize the same type of technology that brought the photo-realistic animals to life in the filmmaker's 2016 blockbuster The Jungle Book. John Oliver also joins Donald Glover as Simba and the iconic James Earl Jones, reprising his voice role as »
Justice League Villain Actor Never Met the Main Cast of Heroes
11 July 2017 10:50 AM, PDT
Back in November, Warner Bros.' highly-anticipated Justice League added the talented British actor Ciaran Hinds as iconic villain Steppenwolf. While not much has been revealed about this character, the actor revealed in a new interview that, since he did all of his work in motion capture, he never got a chance to meet any of the cast members in Justice League. Here's what he had to say.
"No, I don't know whether they're all afraid to come and meet me. No, no they weren't, really. Because it's imaginary, you do it with green screen. That was another challenge, you could say, yeah. But it was quite fun. And they're very encouraging in what you do, suggesting 'Over here, look over there, imagine that, do this here, they're coming at you now.'"
Caesar Vs. Spider-Man: Can Planet of the Apes Win the Box Office?
11 July 2017 10:12 AM, PDT
Like many superhero movies these days, Marvel and Sony's Spider-Man: Homecoming exceeded all projections and expectations, earning an impressive $117 million in its opening weekend, a box office debut that was higher than most projections. This weekend, the new Spider-Man movie will face two newcomers, 20th Century Fox's War For the Planet of the Apes and Broad Green's Wish Upon, although the Apes are the only ones expected to give Spidey a run for its money. While Homecoming will certainly have a solid second weekend, those damn dirty Apes are expected to come out on top with a projected $82.6 million.
If this third Planet of the Apes movie meets or exceeds this projection, it will become one of the few major movie trilogies to increase in both box office grosses and in critical acclaim. 2011's Rise of the Planet of the Apes kicked off the franchise with a $54.8 million debut en »
Deadpool Champions Wonder Woman Success and Her Strong B.O.
11 July 2017 9:37 AM, PDT
Deadpool may be a bit on the filthy side, but never let it be said that he won't do the classy thing when the time is right. Wonder Woman is currently having a tremendous run at the box office and, over the weekend, the movie actually managed to surpass Deadpool at the domestic box office. Instead of being snarky about it, the Merc With a Mouth decided to congratulate the Wonder Woman team for their accomplishment. But there was definitely some Wade Wilson flavor in there.
As of this writing, Wonder Woman has made $368.4 million at the domestic box office. That makes it the highest-grossing Dceu movie domestically and puts it ahead of Deadpool's $363 million domestic total from last year. That is a pretty impressive accomplishment. The official Deadpool movie Twitter account commemorated the milestone with a picture of Deadpool sporting a Wonder Woman gold chain and a little congratulatory message that was appropriate, »

They navigate the wild and varied world of apps to find Gene's true personality.
From Sony Pictures, The Emoji Movie is packed with symbolism and wicked double entendres. Each Emoji has a distinct personality that fuels their dialogue. Patrick Stewart costars as Poop, everything he says and does has a scatalogical bend. »
Valerian Review: Lush Wizardry Offset by a Convoluted Plot
11 July 2017 9:03 AM, PDT
Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets is a visually bold, but strangely meandering film. There's no denying the wizardry of the spectacle. The special effects and costumes are amazing. Director Luc Besson bathes the screen in lush vibrancy. The problem is that the lead characters do not resonate. Their lack of dynamism and the convoluted plot add serious drag. It never reaches the point of rousing sci-fi adventure, but makes an all out effort to get there.
Set hundreds of years in the future, the initial human space station has grown into a planet sized behemoth called Alpha. This wondering mega-colony incorporates countless species from across the galaxy. Hence the moniker, City of a Thousand Planets. When Alpha's existence is threatened by a mysterious force, the human council calls its most elite soldier to investigate. Valerian (Dane DeHaan) has no problems pummeling bad guys. It's winning the affection »

10 July 2017 6:56 PM, PDT
A new image has surfaced from Warner Bros.' highly-anticipated Blade Runner 2049, which continues this iconic story 35 years after the original Blade Runner debuted in theaters back in 1982. The photo in question features Ryan Gosling as Officer K and Harrison Ford as the iconic Rick Deckard, who has gotten the drop on K and is pointing a gun at him. We've already seen parts of this scene in the previously released trailers, but we also have new details from Ryan Reynolds, Ana de Armis and director Denis Villeneuve.
Empire spoke with Ryan Gosling, whose character K is a blade runner like Rick Deckard before him. Original Blade Runner director Ridley Scott, who serves as executive producer on Blade Runner 2049, revealed last month that fans will find out once and for all if Deckard is a Replicant or not, but it's possible that Agent K may be dealing with »
