“Big Brother” was big enough to withhold another Sunday ratings win from ABC. The reality competition carried CBS to an outright victory last night, when NBC kept Fox out of third place. Joss Whedon Fan Site Shuts Down After Ex-Wife’s Explosive Essay

The Joss Whedon fan site Whedonesque is shutting down, it announced on Monday morning. The closure comes after Whedon’s ex-wife, Kai Cole, wrote a explosive guest blog on TheWrap, calling the “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” creator a “hypocrite preaching feminist ideals.” “So farewell then, 15 years is a long time and a lot of water has flowed under the bridge. But now it’s time to say goodbye. No more threads after this one, we’re closing down,” the message on the fan site reads. “The site will at some stage become a read only site.” Also Read: Joss Whedon »

Can I Really Go Blind Watching the Solar Eclipse?

On Monday, a total solar eclipse will be visible in the United States, and if you’re planning on catching a glimpse of one of nature’s wonders you’re going to need some special viewing glasses or risk serious damage to your eyes, including blindness. According to Vox (and common sense), looking directly at the sun — eclipse or not — can permanently damage your eyes, literally burning a hole through them. You’ll need super-dark glasses (think dark welder’s glasses) that will filter out all but .003 percent of light. Ordinary sunglasses do not provide sufficient protection. “The light from the sun is. »

Jay-z has spoken out about the 2014 elevator fight with his sister-in-law Solange Knowles after the Met Gala for the first time, more than three years after the incident took place. “We had one disagreement ever. Before and after we’ve been cool,” Jay-z said in a recent interview with Rap Radar hosts Elliott Wilson and Brian “B.Dot” Miller. “She’s like my sister. I will protect her. That’s my sister, not my sister-in-law. My sister. Period.” He added, “We’ve always had a great relationship. I fought my brothers and argued with my brothers my whole life. It just so happens, »

Do I Really Need Special Glasses to Watch the Eclipse?

On Monday, a total solar eclipse will be visible in the United States, and if you’re planning on catching a glimpse of one of nature’s wonders you’re going to need some special viewing glasses. A total solar eclipse occurs when the moon passes between the Earth and the sun and fully blocks the sun — it’s a pretty big deal because the last one that was visible in the contiguous U.S. happened 38 years ago. The previous one occurred in 1918. You’re most likely going to want to step outside and take a peek at what the sun and the moon are. »

John Oliver Tackles Our Nuclear Waste Problem, Which Now Includes Radioactive Alligators (Video)

If an ill plagues our society, count on John Oliver to cover the issue — especially if it is one literally making society ill. On Sunday, HBO’s “Last Week Tonight” host tackled America’s nuclear waste problem, which basically boils down to the fact that for decades now, we’ve had no real place to dump the dangerous stuff. What’s getting out is making people sick, which should make readers feel the same way. As Oliver simply posed the crux of the issue: “Why do we not have a nuclear toilet?” Also Read: 'Weird Al' Yankovic Joins »

‘Death Note’ Review: Remake of Japanese Hit Loses Everything in Translation

I’ll have to trust the breadth and popularity of the 14-year-old “Death Note” franchise in Japan — which encompasses more than 100 issues of manga, two TV series, four live-action movies, several video games and a stage musical — that there’s something, anything, remotely interesting about its premise. Director Adam Wingard’s American remake for Netflix is the latest anime adaptation to get mangled (and whitewashed) in translation; the new horror-thriller is cheesy, asinine, convoluted and ludicrous. On the plus side, if your eyeballs need a vigorous workout, this will have them rolling nonstop. A leather-bound notebook with the words “Death. »

WWE ‘SummerSlam': Watch Braun Strowman Dump an Announce Table on Brock Lesnar (Video)

Brock Lesnar may have finally met his match — something WWE will exploit in the near future for an actual match. As if Braun Strowman power-slamming “The Beast Incarnate” through two announce tables wasn’t enough to satisfy Sunday’s “SummerSlam” main event, the aptly monikered “Monster Among Men” dumped the third ringside desk onto the WWE Universal Champion’s already bruised body. Lesnar was carted off after gamely taking those rough bumps, seemingly turning the evening’s Fatal 4-Way into a Triple Threat match between remaining competitors Strowman, Roman Reigns and Samoa Joe. However, Paul Heyman’s top client would »

Secret Service Funds Depleted by Trump’s Large Family, Constant Travel

The Secret Service is running out of cash because of President Trump’s large family and frequent trips to his properties, according to USA Today. The paper reported on Monday that the Secret Service “can no longer afford to pay hundreds of agents it needs to carry out an expanded protective mission.” Shortly after the report was published, the term “Secret Service” became a top trend across social media. Secret Service Director Randolph “Tex” Alles told the paper that over 1,000 agents have already hit federally mediated overtime caps because they must protect Trump and his adult children who are regularly on. »

MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” regular guest Mark Halperin said on Monday that he recently spent time in Hollywood and people there want to know when President Trump will leave office. Co-host Joe Scarborough started the segment by saying: “I have been, I think it’s safe to say, very negative about the president on Twitter and other people have been very negative, but this weekend there seemed to be a turn where a lot of people who were negative have started to talk about impeachment and have started to talk about, Ok maybe he’s going to resign now … if Donald Trump. »

CNN media guru Brian Stelter said Donald Trump is provoking uncomfortable questions regarding the president’s fitness and mental health. Stelter opened Sunday’s “Reliable Sources” by explaining that many journalists and people working in the news industry have “concerns and fears” about Trump’s ability to run the country. “Questions that often feel out of bounds, off limits, too hot for TV,” Stelter said. “Questions like these: Is the President of the United States a racist? Is he suffering from some kind of illness? Is he fit for office? And if he’s unfit, then what?” Also Read: Tina Fey Blasts Trump, »

‘Game of Thrones’ Lore Refresher: That Old Battle Jorah and Thoros Were Talking About

Game of Thrones” characters routinely reference events and history that took place long before the show started. Without a working knowledge of Westerosi history, it’s easy to get confused when the show discusses things that happened years in the past — and that’s exactly what Ser Jorah (Iain Glen) and Thoros of Myr (Paul Kaye) do in the Season 7 episode “Beyond the Wall.” As they’re walking beyond the Wall on their mission to find an undead wight, capture it, and bring it back to show the lords of Westeros, Jorah and Thoros discuss a battle they fought together years. »
