Trailer for 'The Miracle Season' Inspiring True Story of Volleyball Team

"How is the team looking?" Ld Entertainment has debuted a trailer for a true story film titled The Miracle Season, about a high school girls' volleyball team that had to overcome a tragic loss of one of their players. The cast of the film is lead by Helen Hunt, William Hurt, Danika Yarosh, Erin Moriarty, as well as Tiera Skovbye and Nesta Cooper. The Miracle Season is based on the inspiring true story of West High School girls' volleyball team. In 2011, their star player Caroline Found tragically died in a moped accident, but the team (and the entire town) came together and overcame the odds. The story was already profiled on HBO's "Real Sports" series, but this is the feature film version. The title reminds me of The Winning Season, but this is probably closer to We Are Marshall than anything else. Another inspiring sports story to enjoy. Here's the »

Jemaine Clement & Elliot Gould in Trailer for Comedy Film 'Humor Me'

"A warm, witty response to dark times." Shout! Studios has debuted an official trailer for an indie comedy titled Humor Me, from first-time director Sam Hoffman. The film stars Jemaine Clement as a struggling New York playwright who is forced to move in with his eccentric dad in a New Jersey retirement community after his wife decides to leave him. Elliot Gould stars as his father, and the two find awkward ways to bond in this predicament while figuring out how best to enjoy life. The cast includes Ingrid Michaelson, Annie Potts, Bebe Neuwirth, Priscilla Lopez, Erich Bergen, and Maria Dizzia. I haven't heard of this film before, but I'm always down for anything with Jemaine Clement in it, and this looks like it will be enjoyable. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Sam Hoffman's Humor Me, in high def on Apple: Humor Me is a heartfelt father-son »

Watch: Looper's Preview of the Exciting Sci-Fi Movies Coming in 2018

Looking ahead at 2018, it's going to be another exciting, spectacular year for the science fiction genre. With a few weeks to go until the New Year, Looper put out a video previewing some of the most anticipated sci-fi movies opening in 2018. They call the video "Sci Fi Movies That Will Completely Blow You Away In 2018," though that's some epic hype. I'm just happy to see this much sci-fi, it means the genre is truly in a new era of brilliance with so many boundary-pushing films on the horizon. The video profiles most of the major sci-fi movies coming out in 2018, like The Predator, Ready Player One, Annihilation, and A Wrinkle in Time, but misses one big one - the Cloverfield movie, currently set for February 2nd though that might change. This is a good video to watch to get you in the mood for some awesome movies to anticipate in »

Official Us Trailer for the Pussy Riot Documentary 'Act & Punishment'

13 December 2017 1:35 PM, PST

"Revolution or media noise?" Cleopatra Entertainment has released a new trailer for a documentary about the controversial, radical rock band Pussy Riot, titled Act & Punishment. The film profiles their activist careers, by following them closely since they were released from prison in 2012. It examines "their evolution from mere political activists through their formation of a punk rock band destined to bring their message of revolution to the masses and beyond." Pussy Riot is also launching a tour in the Us in 2018 right after this doc premieres on VOD, and it's all tied together to help bring more attention to these badass ladies. The film stars actual Pussy Riot members Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, Maria Alyokhina, and Yekaterina Samutsevich. This looks like a wild, bold look at how much noise they made and the importance of troublemakers today. Ed Helms & Amanda Seyfried in First Trailer for Comedy 'The Clapper'

13 December 2017 1:13 PM, PST

"Who is The Clapper?" Momentum Pictures has debuted an official trailer for an indie comedy titled The Clapper, the latest from director Dito Montiel (A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints, Fighting, The Son of No One, Man Down). The Clapper is about a man, played by Ed Helms, who enjoys his job to be paid to fill seats in infomercial audiences. But when a talk late night TV talk show host discovers and makes fun of him, his whole life gets turned upside-down. Very weird concept for a film, but this trailer actually makes it look kind of amusing, with a sweet side. The cast includes Amanda Seyfried, Tracy Morgan, P.J. Byrne, Charles Halford, and Leah Remini. This probably isn't what you're expecting, but doesn't look too bad. First Trailer for HBO's 'David Bowie: The Last Five Years' Documentary

13 December 2017 10:06 AM, PST

"A man on top of his game." HBO has unveiled the first brief teaser trailer for a feature-length documentary titled David Bowie: The Last Five Years, a profile of the late musicians final five years. The filmmaker behind this doc also made a film about the best five years of Bowie's life, and now will follow that up with this one, with seems to look back at his entire career and how it culminates in these final five years. The Last Five Years will chronicle the evolution of his music, and also focus on his final two studio albums: The Next Day from 2013, and Blackstar from 2016, which was released on Bowie's 69th birthday, just two days before his death. It will also examine his work on the rock stage musical "Lazarus", which he barely finished before dying. Whether or not you're a Bowie fan, this looks like an entertaining, »

'Three Billboards' & 'Lady Bird' Lead the 2018 SAG Awards Nominations

13 December 2017 9:37 AM, PST

The nominees for the 24th Screen Actors Guild Awards have been announced today, putting awards season in full swing before along with the Global Globe nominations earlier this week. The Screen Actors Guild Awards are unique in that it's the actors themselves choose the best performances from amongst their peers. Last year's big winners were Mahershala Ali for Moonlight and Emma Stone for La La Land, both of whom deserved the glory. This year they've selected another exceptional set of notable performers - from films including Get Out, The Disaster Artist, Darkest Hour, The Florida Project, Call Me by Your Name, and I Tonya. Three Billboards Outside of Ebbing, Missouri and Lady Bird are the top nominees. I'm very happy with all this, especially Sally Hawkins and Timothee Chalamet, the two best performances of the year. First Trailer for Pregnancy Horror Thriller 'Inside' with Rachel Nichols

13 December 2017 7:27 AM, PST

"You'll have to come out sooner or later..." Vertical Entertainment has premiered a new trailer for a horror thriller titled Inside, a remake of the original French film of the same name by Alexandre Bustillo & Julien Maury. This new version is made by a Spanish filmmaker, but it's actually entirely in English and thus is more of a "Hollywood" remake, though it wasn't made in Hollywood at all. Inside stars Rachel Nichols as a pregnant woman who moves alone into a new home. She recently lost her partner in a car crash that left her partially deaf. She's stalked by a stranger who is obsessed with her unborn child. The full cast includes Laura Harring, Stany Coppet, Andrea Tivadar, and David Chevers. So this looks exactly like you'd expect, more horror landing in January if you're interested. Never underestimate a mother's protective fury! First Trailer for Clint Eastwood's Train Heroes Movie 'The 15:17 to Paris'

13 December 2017 6:59 AM, PST

"Don't try and take any shortcuts. Do what you know is right." Warner Bros has debuted the first official trailer for Clint Eastwood's The 15:17 to Paris, telling a fictionalized version of the story of three men who thwarted a potential terrorist attack on a train in France in 2015. The story goes that three men confronted and subdued the attacker before he could harm more people, and they have since become heroes for their actions. The 15:17 to Paris actually stars the three real men playing themselves: Anthony Sadler, Alek Skarlatos, and Spencer Stone, along with a cast of actors including Jenna Fischer, Judy Greer, Ray Corasani, Pj Byrne, Tony Hale, and Thomas Lennon. Eastwood is really into these stories of regular American heroes, my goodness. The twist in this is using the actual men, which is kind of cool to see. Enjoy. Here's the first official trailer for »

Second Trailer for Alex Garland's 'Annihilation' with Natalie Portman

13 December 2017 6:29 AM, PST

"We need to know what's inside." "So do I." Whoaaaaa. Paramount has released a new full-length trailer for the latest sci-fi film from Alex Garland (of Ex Machina), who is adapting from Jeff VanderMeer's series of novels. Annihilation stars Natalie Portman as a biologist who travels with a group into a special place known as "Area X" where the laws of nature don't apply. This trailer shows us a bit more of "what's inside" and damn does it look trippy and scary and very mesmerizing. Also starring Jennifer Jason Leigh, Gina Rodriguez, Tessa Thompson, Tuva Novotny, and Oscar Isaac. I am so very excited for this, mostly because I trust in Garland to bring us some of the best cerebral sci-fi around. And this looks wildly unique. Here's the second official trailer for Alex Garland's Annihilation, direct from Paramount's YouTube: You can also still watch the first teaser trailer for Garland's Annihilation here, »

First Quick Teaser for Wacky 'Journey to China' with Schwarzenegger

12 December 2017 2:35 PM, PST

This looks very weird. A very short teaser trailer has debuted online for a film titled Journey to China, for short, though it goes by many names. This film is actually Viy 2, a sequel to Viy (from 2014), also known as Forbidden Empire - a fantasy adventure movie set in a cursed Romanian forest. This sequel goes by other titles including: Journey to China: The Mystery of Iron Mask, The Mystery of Dragon Seal: The Journey to China, or just simply Viy-2. The plot involves English traveler/cartographer Jonathan Green journeying to China and falling into a fantastical adventure. The film's peculiar cast features Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jackie Chan, Rutger Hauer, Charles Dance, Jason Flemyng, Yuri Kolokolnikov. Schwarzenegger is playing James Hook, but I don't even know what's going on. Maybe the full-length trailer will reveal more. Review: Rian Johnson's 'Star Wars: The Last Jedi' is Bold But Off-Balance

12 December 2017 1:15 PM, PST

Written and directed by filmmaker Rian Johnson (of Brick, The Brothers Bloom, Looper), Star Wars: The Last Jedi is the second entry in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, following J.J. Abrams' Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Upon its release in late 2015, The Force Awakens received overwhelmingly positive reviews from critics and praise from fans worldwide for restoring the saga's former glory while injecting it with fresh blood. As beloved as Episode VII was, however, one criticism continued to appear: it was too safe; a rehash of George Lucas' 1977 film. If Abrams' movie was too safe, then Johnson's follow-up may prove too risky. Picking up moments after Episode VII's cliffhanger ending with Rey finally meeting Luke, The Last Jedi begins with the evacuation of D'Qar, home to the Resistance's secret base. After the destruction of their superweapon, Starkiller Base, the First Order attacks the planet, with General Hux (Domhnall Gleeson »

A Final Trailer for Horror 'Insidious: The Last Key' Opening in January

12 December 2017 12:45 PM, PST

"Whistle if you can hear me." Universal has released a final 60-second trailer for horror sequel Insidious: The Last Key, also known as just Insidious 4, since this is the latest in this on-going horror franchise. It opens in early January just a few days after the New Year, so don't expect much from this sequel. Lin Shaye returns as Dr. Elise Rainier, the brilliant parapsychologist who ends up being terrorized in her own home by the demons that have been haunting houses ever since Insidious in 2010. Shaye is joined in the cast by Angus Sampson, Leigh Whannell, Josh Stewart, Caitlin Gerard, Kirk Acevedo, Javier Botet, Bruce Davison, Spencer Locke, Tessa Ferrer, Ava Kolker and Marcus Henderson. I honestly feel like this horror franchise has worn out its welcome, time to end it, so hopefully this is it once and for all. Here's the final "Big Whistle" trailer (+ poster) for Adam Robitel »

New Us Trailer for Award-Winning Russian Family Drama 'Loveless'

12 December 2017 6:54 AM, PST

Sony Classics has debuted an official Us trailer for the acclaimed Russian drama Loveless, which has been picking up awards and accolades ever since it premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in May. If you haven't heard about this film, now is the time to catch up with it, because it will be showing up on plenty of Top 10 lists from critics this year not to mention the big awards. Loveless is about a Russian couple going through a brutal divorce, and their young son decides to run away to escape them. It's apparently not only a tough look at families and modern relationships, but also a criticism of Russia's current society. Loveless won the Jury Prize in Cannes, Best Cinematography & Best Score at the European Film Awards, Best Film at the London Film Festival, and was nominated for a Golden Globe award (it will very likely get an Oscar »

Official Trailer for James Mark's Sci-Fi Martial Arts Movie 'Kill Order'

12 December 2017 5:59 AM, PST

He has no name. Only purpose. Rlj Entertainment has debuted an official trailer for a sci-fi action movie from Canada titled Kill Order, which is actually about a student who has latent special powers. From the description, this sounds like some martial arts film from Hong Kong but it's actually made by a Canadian stuntman named James Mark, making his feature directorial debut. His stunt group, Team 2X, has started making films and this is one of their latest offerings. Chris Mark (James' brother) stars as a troubled high school student who gains superpowers when a group of armed men break into his classroom. The full cast includes Daniel Park, Denis Akiyama, Melee Hutton, Jessica Clement, Jason Gosbee, and Alain Moussi. This film is pretty much just a fun way to show off cool martial arts stunt skills, and not much else. Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for James Mark's Kill Order, »

Another International Trailer for 'Black Panther' Teases Wakanda Tech

11 December 2017 3:01 PM, PST

"The King of Wakanda is here." Disney has debuted an international trailer for Marvel's Black Panther movie, with a tiny bit of extra footage not seen in the first two trailers. Most of the new shots include some Wakanda technology, which is one of the coolest details about this movie. Directed by Ryan Coogler (of Fruitvale Station, Creed), the story follows King T'Challa, once again played by Chadwick Boseman, who goes back to his African nation of Wakanda after the events of Civil War. There he encounters new enemies that want to challenge his seat on the throne, and destroy Wakanda. The outstanding ensemble cast includes Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong'o, Danai Gurira, Martin Freeman, Daniel Kaluuya, Angela Bassett, Forest Whitaker, Andy Serkis as Klaw, Florence Kasumba, John Kani, Winston Duke, and Sterling K. Brown. Oh hell yes this looks great, I'm so there on opening day. Bring on Black Panther. »

2018 Golden Globes Nominees - 'Disaster Artist', 'Dunkirk' + 'Get Out'

11 December 2017 9:56 AM, PST

The list of nominations for the 75th Annual Golden Globe Awards (of 2018), the yearly precursor to the Academy Awards, have just been announced today - you can find all the film nominees below. The infamous Hollywood Foreign Press Association announced the nominees this morning from The Beverly Hilton. The selection this year is interesting, but as always it's full of some weird and confusing picks, and a few snubs (like Greta Gerwig and Jordan Peele from Best Director). The top nominees are The Shape of Water with 7 noms, plus The Post and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri with 6 noms each. Lady Bird and Get Out at least did get Best Film noms. Another intriguing year of picks but not that surprising for the HFPA. The 75th Annual Golden Globe Awards will take place on Sunday, January 7th, 2018 at The Beverly Hilton hosted by Seth Meyers with a live telecast airing on NBC. »

Suki Waterhouse in Official Trailer for 'The Girl Who Invented Kissing'

11 December 2017 8:47 AM, PST

"Says you're not from 'round here. Come here to make trouble?" An official trailer has arrived online for an indie drama titled The Girl Who Invented Kissing, starring up-and-coming actress Suki Waterhouse as a "nameless, pill-popping drifter girl" who steps off of a bus and into a neighborhood bar owned by two middle-age brothers. The film hasn't played at many festivals, but seems to have that indie vibe, with some mysterious twists and turns, and emotional stakes that push the plot along. The Girl Who Invented Kissing full cast includes Vincent Piazza, Dash Mihok, Abbie Cornish, Luke Wilson, Corey Large, Johnny Messner, and Michael Buscemi. This seems like a quirky, oddly sweet story and I'm not sure if the plot is about these two older guys falling for this young girl or what exactly, but it seems interesting. Check it out.
