Kevin Smith shares his thoughts on the current state of the DC Extended Universe

20 hours ago | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

If there is any man who could be considered the ultimate authority on comic books, it would be Kevin Smith. It was Smith, you may recall, that got the very first look at Ben Affleck as Batman from Zack Snyder himself. For a while, Smith’s description of the suit was all we had to go by. Clearly the man’s opinion has some weight to it when it comes to anyone wearing tights, and a cape.

So what does Smith think of the current state of the DC Extended Universe (or as they prefer to be called: ‘DC Films’)? Speaking to Screen Rant, the Clerks director seems optimistic about the future:

“I’m a forty-seven-year-old man, so I grew up in an era where there were no comic book movies. And then every once in awhile you’d get one, and it was like water in a desert. You »

DC president reportedly states that Zack Snyder’s vision “didn’t necessarily sync up” with theirs

15 October 2017 12:02 PM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

While Zack Snyder certainly has his fans, it’s far to say that a large section of the audience hasn’t been blown away by his take on the DC Extended Universe, with his vision for Superman in particular coming in for some heavy criticism for being too far removed from the essence of the iconic character.

Well, apparently those fans aren’t the only ones who feel that way, as DC Entertainment president Diane Nelson has apparently revealed to Abraham Riesman of Vulture that Snyder’s vision “didn’t necessarily sync up” with DC’s either – although given the filmmaker-led approach to the Dceu, Warner Bros. wanted to respect his take on the characters.

“That was actually a quote that didn’t show up in the finished piece, but that Diane [Nelson] gave me,” said Riesman on the Batman on Film podcast (via Batman-News), referring to an article he »

Jason Momoa says Aquaman is “not even really Aquaman yet” in Justice League

15 October 2017 8:30 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

With the release of Justice League fast approaching, we’re starting to hear more and more from the cast of the DC blockbuster. Yesterday we brought you some comments from Ben Affleck with regards to Joss Whedon’s involvement in the film, and now Jason Momoa has been chatting to SFX Magazine about his role as Aquaman – although he stresses that Arthur Curry won’t be the Aquaman many fans will be expecting to see when we first meet him in the team-up movie.

Aquaman, he’s not even really Aquaman yet,” he reveals. “He’s not the King of the Seven Seas. We don’t really get there until my solo movie, at the end. Really, it’s a huge growth for me. It’s a gigantic arc for Arthur Curry. It may be tough for a lot of fans to watch what they’re gonna see, how I portray him. »

With Patty Jenkins signing a bumper deal to return to the director’s chair and Warner Bros. setting a December 2019 release date for the film, it now seems we have word on when Wonder Woman 2 will enter production.

According to a listing on My Entertainment World (via Omega Underground), filming on the Wonder Woman sequel will begin in June 2018, with the production listing stating that “the sequel will be a pariod piece, with Princess Diana facing off against the Soviet Union during the 1980s”.

This would seem to confirm previous rumours, although it’s possible that the production listing has simply taken said rumours as fact until more information betcomes available.

Ben Affleck on what Joss Whedon has brought to Justice League

14 October 2017 8:45 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Although Joss Whedon is missing out on a director’s credit on Justice League, it seems very clear that The Avengers helmer has had a major influence on Justice League after stepping in as a replacement for Zack Snyder, and during an interview with SFX Magazine, Batman star Ben Affleck has been chatting about what Whedon brought to the DC superhero blockbuster.

Joss just brought to the movie what good directors bring, which is good taste,” said Affleck. “A sense of what’s gonna work in the story and what isn’t. An instinct for realism and for finding the humanity in the characters and the humanity in the conflict, then making it accessible and relevant. I think that’s one of the things he did so well with Avengers, frankly. He really defined the tone, and it felt like a lot of the movies after that sort of fell »

‘Wonder Woman’ Blu-ray Review

13 October 2017 10:01 AM, PDT | Blogomatic3000 | See recent Blogomatic3000 news »

Stars: Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Connie Nielsen, Robin Wright, Danny Huston, David Thewlis, Saïd Taghmaoui, Ewen Bremner, Eugene Brave Rock, Lucy Davis, Elena Anaya, Ann Wolfe, Lisa Loven Kongsli, Ann Ogbomo, James Cosmo, Martin Bishop | Written by Allan Heinberg | Directed by Patty Jenkins

Following her scene-stealing appearance in Batman v Superman, Wonder Woman finally gets her own movie. Yes, she brought the Junkie Xl theme with her, the whole thing revolves around the silly Dawn of Justice, and there’s an obscene amount of speed-ramping, but bear with it, because Wonder Woman is actually, refreshingly, breathtakingly good.

With a few additions, this origin tale tells the story of Wonder Woman as the comic book literate would recognise it: moulded from clay and raised as an Amazon warrior on the all-female island of Themyscira, Diana – daughter of Queen Hippolyta and King of the Gods Zeus – travels to the world of mortals »

‘Blade Runner 2049’: Denis Villeneuve on the Challenges of Three-Way Sex Scenes and His Very Real Need for a Nap

12 October 2017 2:51 PM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

With “Blade Runner 2049” playing on the big screen (where it must be seen in all its glory) amid debates about mismarketing and spoiler phobia, director Denis Villeneuve was relieved to be able to sit down and talk openly about making the movie — with a few well-placed spoiler alerts.

Like “Life of Pi,” and “Mad Max: Fury Road,” along with its main Oscar rival “Dunkirk,” critically hailed “Blade Runner 2049” pushes the state of motion-picture making to its apex. And the Academy — from the picky directors branch and the crafts to actors with a fondness for long-overlooked Harrison Ford — should reward the long-awaited sequel to Ridley Scott’s 1982 “Blade Runner” with multiple nominations. (The original landed just two craft nods.)

The following contains light spoilers for Blade Runner 2049. We've all been there: sitting in a movie theater, watching a character, and feeling stumped about where you've the actor before. While walking out of Blade Runner 2049, many fans experienced exactly this sensation when considering Mariette, the sex worker who uses an encounter with Officer K (Ryan Gosling) and his AI love interest, Joi (Ana de Armas), to help draw him into the replicant resistance. Surrounded by Hollywood heavy-hitters like Gosling, Harrison Ford, Jared Leto, and Robin Wright, it's frustrating not to immediately recall an actor's roster when they look so damn familiar . . . which is why we're here to help. Cary Elwes's Princess Bride Story Will Forever Change the Way You See This 1 Scene

11 October 2017 9:10 AM, PDT | POPSUGAR | See recent BuzzSugar news »

Although it might be hard to believe now, when The Princess Bride first hit theaters 30 years ago, audiences just didn't respond. Rob Reiner's 1987 movie adaptation of William Goldman's beloved novel had everything: fantasy, adventure, a gorgeous love story, pirates, princesses, and one of the most quotable vendettas of all time. And still, it just didn't click. "I think we were all disappointed that it didn't quite get the traction we wanted, since we put a lot of hard work into it and thought it was a lovely movie," Cary Elwes, who starred as the dreamy Westley, revealed on a recent phone call with me in light of the film's anniversary this year. "Luckily for us, the invention of the Vcr breathed new life into our movie. The Princess Bride had been dead for 10 years, so we were so grateful for that invention, because that's when the movie found its audience. »

‘The Princess Bride’ 30th Anniversary Trailer: The Greatest Bedtime Story Ever Filmed

11 October 2017 7:50 AM, PDT | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

While “The Princess Bride” seems like the kind of movie that couldn’t get made now, it’s a miracle it got made back then. It took nearly two decades for William Goldman‘s 1973 novel (which is pretty damn great on its own) to find its way to the big screen, but when it finally did, the mix of ingredients was absolutely perfect.

Directed by Rob Reiner, and featuring a terrific ensemble cast — Cary Elwes, Robin Wright, Wallace Shawn, Andre The Giant,  Christopher Guest, Peter Falk, Fred Savage — who couldn’t be better, the meta and arch bedtime story is endlessly hilarious, charming, and romantic.

Blade Runner 2049 ends weekend slightly up on original box office estimates

10 October 2017 12:47 PM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

The weekend wasn’t quite so dour for Blade Runner 2049 as the film finished the weekend slightly up on initial estimates.

A film like Blade Runner 2049 opening to around $30 million at the domestic box office doesn’t sound totally mad or unreasonable on the surface of things, but when taking into account the films astronomical budget ($150 million) that is a figure that doesn’t quite cut it.

And while the film’s final total for its opening weekend is a slight improvement over estimates, $32.8 million compared to $31.2 million, it still isn’t much to write home about.

Predictions last week had Blade Runner 2049 heading closer to the $50 million mark so investors are bound to be a little caught off guard, especially considering the overwhelmingly positive reviews it received.

The film will still hope to accumulate a fair taking from across all international markets, so perhaps it’s »
