‘Spinal Tap’ Actors File Amended Complaint, Seek Ability to Reclaim Copyrights

20 October 2017 7:35 AM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Harry Shearer, Christopher Guest, Michael McKean and Rob Reiner, the four co-creators of the band at the center of the 1984 “mockumentary” film “This is Spinal Tap,” have filed amendments to their ongoing lawsuit filed against Vivendi’s Universal Music Group and Studiocanal for alleged underpayment of music royalties in the film, including adding Umg as a defendant and seeking the right to reclaim their copyrights to the film, its songs and characters.

In October 2016, Shearer’s Century of Progress Productions sued Vivendi’s Universal Music Group and Studiocanal for $125 million for the alleged underpayment of music royalties. The lawsuit said Vivendi reported only $98 in total income from soundtrack music sales between 1989 and 2006, and just $81 in worldwide merchandising income. Guest, and companies belonging to Reiner and McKean, were later added to the complaint.

Vivendi argued that three of the co-creators’ companies, which sought up to $400 million in damages, did not have the legal right to sue. In September »

Speaking to DC All Access, Momoa has been chatting about Zack Snyder’s vision for Arthur Curry in the DC Extended Universe, as well as the work of costume designer Michael Wilkinson.

“Zack had the idea to put the tattoos everywhere and everyone wanted him to have a little bit of blonde in the hair,” said Momoa. “I just wanted him to have the Van Gogh green-colored eyes, where you can kind of get lost in them. You’re scared by it, but you’re drawn in. We put the contacts in, and I was like, »

Wonder Woman Launches Oscar Campaign

18 October 2017 10:23 AM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Warner Bros. finally got their Dceu superhero universe back on track with Wonder Woman, which has become not only one of the highest-grossing movies ($412.4 million domestic) of the year, but also one of the most critically-acclaimed (92% on Rotten Tomatoes) as well. There had been a report from late July that claimed Warner Bros. was planning a Wonder Woman Oscar campaign, and now that has been confirmed, with the studio launching an official "for your consideration" website for Wonder Woman, along with three more potential Oscar contenders, Christopher Nolan's Dunkirk, Denis Villeneuve's Blade Runner 2049 and Chris McKay's The Lego Batman Movie.

The studio only has three more movies coming out this year, with this weekend's disaster thriller Geostorm, Justice League (November 17) and the comedy Father Figures (December 22), so it seems that Wonder Woman, Dunkirk, Blade Runner 2049 and The Lego Batman Movie represent the studio's best chance »

Diana Prince, Oscar winner?

Five months on from the release and subsequent success of Wonder Woman ($821 million) and Warner Bros. is beginning to double down on the film’s fledgling Oscar campaign by launching its official “For Your Consideration” page.

Submitted alongside Blade Runner 2049, Dunkirk and The Lego Batman Movie, the Powers That Be have placed Wonder Woman in no less than 15 categories, including the prestigious Best Director (Patty Jenkins) and Best Picture. Diana Prince herself, Gal Gadot, is also in contention for Best Actress, having brought the Amazonian to life with real gusto earlier this year.

Connie Nielsen (Hippolyta), Robin Wright (Antiope) and Elena Anaya (Doctor Poison) are among those submitted for Best Supporting Actress, while Warner has also earmarked Chris Pine (Steve Trevor), David Thewlis (Ares), Danny Huston (General Ludendorff), and Ewen Bremner (Charlie) for Best Supporting Actor.

Cyborg’s origin has been revamped for Justice League

18 October 2017 5:48 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

A new Justice League character description for Ray Fisher’s Cyborg has been released, which reveals that the DC Extended Universe incarnation of Victor Stone is going to differ from that of the comic books.

“Part man, part machine, Victor Stone is a former star athlete at Gotham City University. After a horrific car accident nearly cost his life, he was saved when his father, scientist Silas Stone, used an Apokoliptian Mother Box to reconstruct his body. In the process, Silas turned Victor into a human computer, organic with biomechatronic body parts. In other words, a cyborg.”

In the DC comic book continuity, Cyborg actually has two different origin stories; the first, pre-Flashpoint, saw his parents Silas Stone and Elinore Stone using him as a test subject in various experiments, one of which ultimately led to his transformation after he is mortally wounded when his parents accidentally transport a »

Kevin Smith shares his thoughts on the current state of the DC Extended Universe

16 October 2017 11:17 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

If there is any man who could be considered the ultimate authority on comic books, it would be Kevin Smith. It was Smith, you may recall, that got the very first look at Ben Affleck as Batman from Zack Snyder himself. For a while, Smith’s description of the suit was all we had to go by. Clearly the man’s opinion has some weight to it when it comes to anyone wearing tights, and a cape.

So what does Smith think of the current state of the DC Extended Universe (or as they prefer to be called: ‘DC Films’)? Speaking to Screen Rant, the Clerks director seems optimistic about the future:

“I’m a forty-seven-year-old man, so I grew up in an era where there were no comic book movies. And then every once in awhile you’d get one, and it was like water in a desert. You »

DC president reportedly states that Zack Snyder’s vision “didn’t necessarily sync up” with theirs

15 October 2017 12:02 PM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

While Zack Snyder certainly has his fans, it’s far to say that a large section of the audience hasn’t been blown away by his take on the DC Extended Universe, with his vision for Superman in particular coming in for some heavy criticism for being too far removed from the essence of the iconic character.

Well, apparently those fans aren’t the only ones who feel that way, as DC Entertainment president Diane Nelson has apparently revealed to Abraham Riesman of Vulture that Snyder’s vision “didn’t necessarily sync up” with DC’s either – although given the filmmaker-led approach to the Dceu, Warner Bros. wanted to respect his take on the characters.

“That was actually a quote that didn’t show up in the finished piece, but that Diane [Nelson] gave me,” said Riesman on the Batman on Film podcast (via Batman-News), referring to an article he »

With the release of Justice League fast approaching, we’re starting to hear more and more from the cast of the DC blockbuster. Yesterday we brought you some comments from Ben Affleck with regards to Joss Whedon’s involvement in the film, and now Jason Momoa has been chatting to SFX Magazine about his role as Aquaman – although he stresses that Arthur Curry won’t be the Aquaman many fans will be expecting to see when we first meet him in the team-up movie.

Aquaman, he’s not even really Aquaman yet,” he reveals. “He’s not the King of the Seven Seas. We don’t really get there until my solo movie, at the end. Really, it’s a huge growth for me. It’s a gigantic arc for Arthur Curry. It may be tough for a lot of fans to watch what they’re gonna see, how I portray him. »

With Patty Jenkins signing a bumper deal to return to the director’s chair and Warner Bros. setting a December 2019 release date for the film, it now seems we have word on when Wonder Woman 2 will enter production.

According to a listing on My Entertainment World (via Omega Underground), filming on the Wonder Woman sequel will begin in June 2018, with the production listing stating that “the sequel will be a pariod piece, with Princess Diana facing off against the Soviet Union during the 1980s”.

This would seem to confirm previous rumours, although it’s possible that the production listing has simply taken said rumours as fact until more information betcomes available.
