The Family, based on a novel and a non-fiction book, will follow a grad student working with three young women who were brainwashed into being a part of Manson’s cult, who tell their story through flashbacks.
Game of Thrones star Hannah Murray, who recently appeared in Detroit, and Marianne Rendón (Imposters) are also in talks to play two of the women.
Smith will next be seen on the screen as photographer Robert Mapplethorpe in Ondi Timoner’s Mapplethorpe, in which Rendón will also appear as singer Patti Smith.

The upcoming film is said to be something along the lines of an ‘Inglorious Bastards’-style in the sense that it is loosely based on a tragic and world changing moment in history. In 1969, Charles Manson ordered his group of followers known as the Manson Family to invade the 10050 Cielo Drive home in Los Angeles and murder whomever was there and to make it look like it was the beginning of a race war. At the time the home belonged to director Roman Polanski and his pregnant wife Sharon Tate. The Manson family broke into the home and tortured and murdered Sharon Tate, her unborn child, and three of Tate’s friends,
Furthermore, the director has famously said he’ll only ever helm ten movies in his career, and as this will be his ninth, the film is currently being referred to as #9 in promotional circles. Whatever the content of it is, it’s recently kicked off an almighty bidding war amongst studios – unsurprisingly.

Jackson—for lead roles in his yet untitled and self-described 'ninth' movie (he counts both volumes of Kill Bill as one picture). However, the confirmation via Deadline of DiCaprio signing on brings new interesting details, including that Dicpario will be playing an “aging actor” getting by in the summer of 1969. This should be of interest to Tarantino and DiCaprio fans, many of whom speculated that Tarantino’s Django Unchained villain was circling the role of Charles Manson himself.
